I should have known what the night would entail when the older lady sitting beside me came back to her seat with her third glass of wine before the Trews took the stage; I should have. But I was not prepared for the rather out-of-control reception the Picton crowd gave the band when they walked out, nor the way things got further out of hand as the evening went along. People were dancing in the aisles, dancing on the stage, almost falling OFF the stage, dancing at their seats, and yelling and heckling throughout the entire show. I think it's safe to say Picton, ON, loves this band a great deal. What they got back for their efforts was (yet another) absolutely wonderful performance by the Antigonish boys that left no doubt whatsoever about the prodigious talent that this band possesses. It's one thing to be able to sing like birds while standing up, it's a whole 'nother thing entirely to do it sitting down; and sing like birds they did, and THEN some. All the hits were there from all four albums, including the latest single "Sing Your Heart Out" as the first encore, as well as clear fan favourites like "Montebello Park", "The Traveling Kind", "When You Leave", and "Hollis & Morris". They even threw in treasures like "Locked Doors", "Den Of Thieves" and "Happy Day". The stellar guitar playing, the amazing vocals, the intimacy and immediacy of the acoustic sound - all of it together means if you get a chance to see the Trews on this acoustic tour do not hesitate in any way to go. You will NOT be disappointed.
