About

The Used in Concert

Bursting onto the scene with the tense crunch of post-hardcore guitars and singer Bert McCracken's piercing shriek in the early aughts, The Used were stalwarts of the "screamo" sub-genre, drawing comparisons to contemporaries in Thursday, Taking Back Sunday and My Chemical Romance. Always a formidable live act, The Used are as closely aligned with the hard rock acts of the 80s as they are with their post-hardcore brethren, with vocalist McCracken lending his plaintive howl to his bandmates' razor-sharp maelstrom and a full battery of strobe lights. Their latest full-length album Vulnerable featured more overly theatrical flourishes and led with the single "I Come Alive." They supported the album with the Vulnerable Tour 2012 and reissued the album as a two-disc set that included B-sides and rarities, called Vulnerable (II) in March 2013.

The Used are unlikely exports of Orem, Utah, a place not known for hard rock. That didn't stop guitarist Quinn Allman, bassist Jepth Howard, drummer Branden Steineckert and McCracken from playing the local clubs before touring to support their 2002 self-titled debut. Their reputation as a live act saw them punch their ticket for coveted spots on the Warped Tour and Ozzfest. 2004's In Love and Death, which peaked at No. 6 on Billboard's Top 200, announced their arrival to the big leagues, spawning singles, "Take it Away," "All That I've Got" and "I Caught Fire." In 2006, the band replaced longtime drummer Branden Steineckert with Dan Whiteside and released their fifth album Vulnerable through their own label, Dental Records. The band embarked on a series of concerts to support the album that summer. The Used released an EP of new material titled The Ocean of the Sky the following summer. Currently, the band is rumored to be going on tour in 2014, but no official announcements have been made.

The Used are touring on the Rockstar Energy Drink DISRUPT Festival in 2019. The touring festival features unique lineups in each city, including The Used, Thrice, Circa Survive, Sum 41, The Story So Far, Atreyu, Sleeping With Sirens, Andy Black, and more.

  • Great show! (if not a little short)

by mattrock on 2018-05-11The Phoenix Concert Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Great show. Great energy! My only (relatively minor) complaint would be length as they played for just over an hour. They sounded fantastic and the crowd was great. I've read some unfavourable reviews with complaints towards poor sound and aggressive security at this particular but have never experienced either in the shows I've attended at this venue over the years, this one being no exception. Have a great night!

Hands down. One of the best shows I’ve been too. The band has so much energy. The crowd was amazing. The venue was amazing. I had a great night.

  • One of the best live bands EVER!!!!

by Usedconcertreviewer on 2016-09-13The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The Used delivered, as always! Only beef is with the venue - have to do something about those bathrooms - shouldn't take 35 mins to get in!

  • MY TEENAGE YEARS COME TO LIFE!

This show was amazing. The lights were awesome, sang the words to every song! It was unforgettable. Music means everything and it was great being apart of that crowd and hearing The Used on their fifteen-year anniversary tour.

  • What happened?????

by JessInFlames on 2015-04-21Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

I don't know if Bert was just having a bad night or what....but he can't sing anymore! The set list choices were amazing (just very poorly executed). There was so much reliance on the crowd to sing the choruses. I felt like he sang maybe half of every song and it was crap! The Used used to be one of my favorite bands in my teens and I'm just super disappointed after this show :(

Absolutely amazing! One of my favourite bands ever, and I was not disappointed!

  • Complete Euphoria.

by fueledbykate on 2012-09-23The Fox Theater - Pomona - PomonaRating: 5 out of 5

I just recently moved to Los Angeles from Ontario, Canada and was so happy to see that The Used had a West Coast Tour planned. We went to the Pomona show (which is about 30-ish mins outside of LA, depending on traffic). The Used just recently got banned from Canada and I had not seen them since December 2009. Before that, I had only been to one other of their shows, Taste of Chaos 2007. They have been my favourite band for as long and I can remember, and I was so happy to be seeing them for a third time. The setlist was a perfect mix of old and new and the crowd was awesome. I'm not lying when I say it is just like complete euphoria. Bert is also one of the most inspiring people on this planet and I cannot wait to see them again!

  • The Used/ Atreyu

by Lewnami on 2010-02-18The Rapids Theatre - Niagara FallsRating: 4 out of 5

A+Atreyu were amazing- solid and tight performance!! These guys blew the roof off the place! B- The Used - not a bad set list - performance was good aside from Burt (lead singer) being one of the most self absorbed asses in the industry. His comments and antics made for a frustrating show to enjoy- heard it a million times but now have seen it first hand, how he's a complete fake and wannabe. Never will be the real deal ,sincere die hard rock god that he wants to be.

  • Play time left us wanting more!!

by Ladydoc on 2009-11-14Showbox SoDo - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

Though this was a pretty packed gig at a small venue, and the two opening acts were painful to hear (and at times too loud to even detect a tune), and The Used didn't seem to have a much longer set than the other two bands, it was all worth it. They played a mix of all of their albums, including a medley of several early songs. They also performed the fan favourite balad "On My Own". However, for those of us who recently got their new CD and were wanting to hear our new favourites, no such luck. All in all, great show, and we can't wait to see them again!
