I really love the venue and always enjoy a concet at the Mod Club. It's small and intimate and you really feel like the band is playing for only you. On top of a great venue, Thornley is an amazing performer and I always enjoying seeing him in concert, and never miss a show. All in all a great time!

    Thornley keeps getting better!

by Envirotech on 2010-02-20Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

This show has become my #2 favorite Thornley show out of 9 now, most are tied for 4th & 5th. Ian just kept laying out blistering solos the whole night, stellar Catfish intro into Look What I found, great voice that night, I don't think it couldn't have been any more of a perfect show except it had to end. This time I situated myself off right of Ian between Ken Tizzard so I didn't have a wall of bass amp as with the Horseshoe show. Great view of his guitar work, if I could only play a quarter as good as he does. Sound was just superb, I'm glad I picked the 2nd night because the crew & band were both tight. I can see the band has gotten used to the in ear monitors as well, I don't think I saw Ian motion for his vocals to be raised the whole night. Myself, I clued into ear "filters", which cut back the sound levels by an average of 12 db, keeps the highs and lows and don't muffle the sound like plugs do. Quite a good mix of Thornley and Big Wreck tunes, heavy on Tiny Pictures obviously and In Loving Memory Of... Was great to hear Might Be The End, that was a first for me. There was a fan voting of songs wanted to be played beforehand, I think the big one that they, er, Ian, didn't do was Overemphasizing. I got to see Ian perform that song solo last time at Mod Club a few years ago, which was also why I got those ear filters; after 2 opening acts and in front of Tavis Stanley's amp stack the whole night, ears were bleeding for 3 days. Was also great to hear the covers come back, Sunday Bloody Sunday in Come Again is a favorite of mine. Thank you Thornley, looking forward to the next show! (hopefully another Gage Park in the future too)

    Thornley and company Rocked!

by pookies on 2010-02-19Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

I've been looking forward to seeing Thornley play live for ages. I knew I was in for a treat but I was blown away by the energy this band brings. The opening act Mini Monsters were sweet. I've never heard of this young band until tonight and it seemed they had an eager fan base awaiting them. Sounded a little like old Elvis Costello. The jam session with both bands was a wonderful conclusion for the night. Nice surprise to have Daniel Greaves from The Watchmen grace the stage for a brief appearance. What talent! Can't wait to see Thornley again. Please play more Toronto dates.

    Never disappointed!

    by Scotty15 on 2010-02-12Cowboys Bar - Guelph

This is my 4th time seeing Thornley play, and once again I enjoyed a fantastic live performace. If you love their albums, you'll love how much better they sound played live by the skilled Ian Thornley and his crew. The band has a distinct energy on stage that you can't help but get excited about. I brought a friend that hasn't listened much to their albums and had minimal expectations for the show, but by the end of it he was rocking out harder than I was! Also, if you loved Big Wreck in the 90's, you'll be happy to know that he'll play your favourite BW songs at his Thornley shows! Something else that really made this show a hit was one of the opening bands, Mini Mansions. They have an EP on iTunes but believe me when I say it does them no justice when you've seen them perform live. They're an up-and-coming band from California with a lot of followers already; no doubt because of their unique sound and dramatic stage performances. If nothing else, you'll love their twisted version of Blondie's Heart of Glass.

Thornley puts on a show not to be missed!

by Homerfan on 2010-02-12Cowboys Bar - Guelph

If you only see one live show this year, I strongly urge you to go see Thornley! Ian and his band-mates are incredible entertainers and you won't be disappointed. The set list was well mixed consisting of many songs from both albums, and most of Big Wreck's strongest hits. They are definitely far from a studio band (you know... when the CD sounds great but they suck live), because although the CD's do sound great - they bring an energy to the stage that doesn't compare to recorded music. He belt's out those lyrics with an intensity that will leave you wanting more! Add to that the intimacy of a smaller venue and you've got yourself an unforgettable experience.

    AMAZING SHOW!!!!!!!!!!

    by Kimmie4485 on 2010-02-12Cowboys Bar - Guelph

Thornley puts on one hell of a show! They had two opening bands, Trainlight and Mini Mansions, both of which were pretty good. I have seen Thornley 4 times now and each time is a different experience, but gets better and better. A definite MUST-SEE show!!!!
