About

TJ Miller on Tour

With his wildly curly hair, booming voice, and imposing frame, TJ Miller stands out in a crowd. His comedic style plays off his unconventional vibe, incorporating metaphysical musings, gross-out humor, physical comedy, and anything else he can think of as he keeps his audiences in stitches.

His stand-up specials, like 2011's No Real Reason and 2017's TJ Miller: Meticulously Ridiculous, further showcase his comedic style, which is full of contradictions. It's broad yet extremely specific to Miller's unique way of thinking, erudite while reveling in grossness.

TJ Miller Background

Born in Denver, Miller honed his comedy chops in Chicago, where he performed at the iO Theater and toured with the legendary Second City troupe. In the late 2000s, he made his first appearances on television, starring in the commuter sitcom Carpoolers and offering nuggets of wisdom as part of the Chelsea Lately roundtable.

Miller also played a crucial role in Cloverfield, narrating the action that made up that horror film's movie-within-a-movie. In the '10s, he made brief but memorable cameos in films like Extract and Get Him to the Greek, and his inimitable voice helped him score voice acting gigs in the How to Train Your Dragon series and Big Hero 6.

Miller originated the role of Erlich Bachman, the wild, money-obsessed entrepreneur on HBO's Silicon Valley, and his chaotic, commanding performance catapulted him to bigger stardom. He won the Critics' Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2015, and hosted that awards show the following two years.

After leaving Silicon Valley in 2017, Miller lent his voice to The Emoji Movie and the video game Kingdom Hearts III. When not onstage, Miller is a prodigious Yelp reviewer, chronicling his world travels with the same blend of broad humor and painstaking attention to detail that makes his comedy resonate so deeply with audiences.
