Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and seven division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951. 

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999—the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Maple Leafs have appeared in the Playoffs every year consecutively since 2017. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 74 times to date.

    So I had tickets in the purples, the cost was $55. One of the things I love about the ACC is that almost every seat is a good one, and even though I was in the 15th row of the upper bowl, they were great seats. The game had everything you could ask for, an early lead, a comeback, OT, a win, and loads of fighting. Even though it was a preseason game, the line ups were still great, and the refs let some of the fight really go. The crowd was really into the game, the wave happened many times and the "GO LEAFS GO" chant was belted VERY loudly many times. Amazing game, amazing atmosphere. Also loved when they brought out Phil Kessel to introduce him to Toronto.

    Preseason games are kickass. The food obviously overpriced. Both teams are hardcore tough teams. So it was expected they would play hard!!!! Lots of fights is what it's all about. Leafs won 5-4. GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great game. My eight year old was totally enthralled and excited. It was the first time in my experience that the wave went three times arounnd the centre without my participation may I add. The new score board is easily seen and great for review of plays. Loved the intermission interactions and someone should sign up the dud who did the "wester dance" for a period of time much to the delight of the fans. He was wearing a white Leaf jersey and a cowboy hat, also sported an appropriate mustache. Not boring at all. Only flaw still line ups when nature calls unless you go during play. To bad for the women but super upgrade when comparing to the days at Maple Leaf Gardens. The hockey cards of individual leaf players was an extra touch for my son. Again had a GGRREEAATT time.

    It was a great night of hockey in Toronto. The fans were excited and made the evening all that much more fun. They won - what more can you ask for me. Stanley Cup here we come
