Everything I Hoped For After 20 Years
by AlanM on 2024-11-30Canadian Tire Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5I wanted to see TSO live ever since I saw them on "Live With Regis & Kelly"in the early 2000s. Every year, I would look at their tour locations only to find that they were always at least a full day's drive away - mostly on weekdays, it seemed.
On one occasion, they brought the show to the city I lived in at the time, but I was away at that day!!! I couldn't believe it. I vowed to travel if necessary someday, but it would have to be somewhere accessible on a weekend. At this time of year, finding some free time is difficult!
This year, for the first time ever, I finally got to see The Lost Christmas Eve as they came to Ottawa, and I wasn't traveling somewhere. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. Much more. I have never been entertained in my life like I was that night. It was just spectacular in every way from beginning to end.
The "first act"seemed intensely emotional with all types of music - blues, broadway, rock, opera-ish (in the bubble), and even a little Gregorian chanting. The second part was an entertainment extravaganza. The lights, the lasers, the pyro, and the indoor fireworks. At times, it was almost sensory overload. And most of all, the music was spectacular.
My only regret is that I was never able to see the live performance of Jennifer Cella singing Christmas Canon - my favorite Christmas song of all time. I don't mean to slight the current singer because she was fabulous; it's just the Jennifer Cella recording is the one I am most familiar with, and you have to agree, Ms Cella was a tough act to follow!
I couldn't be happier that I was able to see this show, and I hope I can see TSO live many more times.
Also, kudos to the crew. I kept wondering how they could set up this whole show for one night, then tear it down and set it up again, probably for a show the next night. Absolutely unbelievable.
