About

Triathalon on Tour

New York lo-fi trio Triathalon began as the solo project of Adam Intrator before Chad Chilton and Hunter Jayne joined in 2011. Together, they relocated to New York City after playing together for almost a decade in Georgia, where they attended college in Savannah.

Still based in New York, Triathalon independently recorded and released their first album, Lo-Tide, in 2014. Describing how they picked a misspelled version of "triathlon" for a band name, Intrator said in an interview with Chicago radio station WNUR: "It was really just an accident. I just thought that's how it was spelled. The name was actually from a screenplay I was working on at the time. I just thought it was cool."

The band followed up their debut in 2015 with the LP Nothing Bothers Me. In 2017, they released an EP titled Cold Shower.

In 2018, Triathalon shared another LP, Online. Opening up to The FADER about Online, band member Hunter Jayne said, "These songs reflect the struggles of balancing normal life and music life, having personal relationships, and being on tour. It explores how the internet affects our perceptions as individuals and as artists. In the process of making this album we were in different places not only geographically, but also artistically. Adam moved to New York, bought a Casio and started making demos to send to Chad and me in Savannah [Georgia.] At the time we were all listening to different types [of] music which gave the record multifaceted depth and inspired new approaches to our respective instruments."

In 2020, Triathalon shared two more albums: one was a demos project, simply called Demos, and the next they called SLEEP CYCLE. They followed that up with SLEEP CYCLE remixes in 2021.

By 2022, Triathalon had released another new album, Spin, via Lex Records. Spin was recorded live and featured mixing by Gabe Wax (Adrianne Lenker, Fleet Foxes), mastering by Zeroh (Pink Siifu, Eyedress), and was written, produced and recorded by the band.

Opening up about how his creative process has evolved over the years, Intrator told Melted Magazine: "My creative process has stayed pretty consistent actually. I usually flow best in my bedroom. Be a classic homebody, chill and write songs. I did buy an old Casio in a random flea market when I moved here and that definitely changed the game for me. I've also been coming up with a lot more ideas while on the train. NYC has definitely shifted my focus to explore a more soulful sound. The city's got me listening to way more jazz & hip hop which has influenced a lot of newer material."
