by Operawoman on 2010-12-07Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - VancouverEven though I am an alum of Trinity Western University, that doesn't mean that I know any of the families involved now, nor am I a part of the active community at large, so when I arrived for the Annual Christmas at the Chan performance I along with the stylized Mohawk, nose pierced and shoe studded creative souls were left alone. Good thing this didn't cause me to high tail it out of the waiting area....leave the event altogether. I didn't even contemplate the meaning of life while waiting for an hour before being seated. My patience was rewarded. Once inside the lovely, contemporary and acoustically magnificent Chan we were all putty in the hands of the conductor, Wes Janzen. He had crafted a musical behemoth of a performance that challenged the vocalist, family of choirs and probably pleased the orchestra. I was reminded why this time of year especially is such a favourite, sometimes lonely but emotionally rewarding. Wes Janzen was so focused and attentive to his performers. He had such an open heart to the audience especially during the sing along portion of the afternoon, I then felt I was among old friends, given the opportunity to get reacquainted. So even if you have no clue where the Chan is or who Wes Janzen and the Trinity Western University family of choirs hail from so please look on-line Sept 15 at noon 2011 for a ticket. I found the reason why this concert sells out in 27 hours. I hope you have the privilege to join us next year and discover the Christmas Gift for yourself.
