UCF Knights Women’s Basketball Team History
The Knights joined the NCAA (Division II) during the 1982-83 season at the same time their entire Sunshine State Conference did. The school was bumped up to Division I just two seasons later. They made their first NCAA Division I tournament in 1996. A 14-win swing from 2015-16 tied the team for the second-best turnaround in Division I women’s basketball. The arrival of head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson prior to the 2016-17 season sparked the Knights to a new level.
UCF made the NCAA tournament three times under Abrahamson before she left to become head coach at Georgia in 2022. The Knights are currently coached by Sytia Messer.

UCF Knights Women’s Basketball at Addition Financial Arena
The UCF women’s basketball team has called Addition Financial Arena – an on-campus building – home since 2007. The arena has a capacity of 9,432 for basketball games. The gameday experience has evolved over the last 10 seasons and now includes everything from dance cams to a postgame singing of the alma mater.
