South Carolina Gamecocks Women’s Basketball History

The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team is one of the most prestigious programs in the country. Legendary head Coach Dawn Staley has built a perennial powerhouse, making South Carolina one of the elite teams in women’s college basketball year after year. In her 17-year tenure, Staley has led the Gamecocks to 12 NCAA Tournaments, winning three of them. Additionally, South Carolina has won eight SEC regular season championships and eight SEC tournaments under Staley, and has appeared in eight Sweet Sixteens and five Final Fours. The Gamecocks went undefeated for the first time in school history en route to a national championship in 2023.

The University of South Carolina Gamecocks play at Colonial Life Arena, an on-campus venue that opened in 2002. The arena holds 18,000 for basketball games. Besides being the home of the Gamecocks’ men’s and women’s basketball teams, Colonial Life Arena hosts the South Carolina High School Basketball Championships every year.
