Vancouver Canucks History

The Vancouver Canucks started play in 1970, entering the league along with the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver has been to the Stanley Cup Final on three occasions, though they lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Despite humble beginnings, the Canucks continued to develop. With the arrival of three key players—Captain Trevor Linden, netminder Kirk McLean, and "the Russian Rocket" Pavel Bure, the Canucks had a winning Playoff run season—making it to the 1994 finals.

The Canucks continued to acquire superstars like Alexander Mogilny and Markus Näslund, and while the following years meant a series of losses, it allowed for the team to draft Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who would go on to lead the Canucks to Presidents' Trophies in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, as well as their finals appearance in 2011.

Pre season game in Abbotsford where the top players all sat out and yet they still charged NHL ticket pricing to watch an AHL team. Why have an NHL pre season game in Abbotsford when you dress an AHL team.

Not enough NHL players Just another AHL game Won’t go again Another ripoff

  • Canucks / Kraken

We like the venue but the game was rather lack luster. I get it was preseason, but there was no emotion for something that the NHL is trying promote as a rivalry.

  • Preseason disappointment

by Sir Stinky on 2023-10-07Abbotsford Centre - AbbotsfordRating: 3 out of 5

Listen, I understand that it was "just"a preseason game but it was billed as The "Vancouver "Canucks vs Seattle Kraken, but thenbthey go and pull all the star players at the last minute and replace them with players from the farm team? If I wanted to go see an Abbotsford Canucks game I would have paid a lot less and not expected much, which is what I got, not much... I can't afford to attend regular season games in Vancouver so seeing the Vancouver team play in Abbotsford is the best alternative, unless they pull a fast one on you like this.

Not impressed they didn’t bring their bigger named players. But they played them in Vancouver before & after this game. Previous years they brought a full line up for this event. Tickets cost more than usual for this venue and we got cheated. Also not a huge fan of the new club seats. Too puffy they make your knees push into the seat in front of you now. Much preferred the older style.

    by Hutch216 on 2023-10-07Abbotsford Centre - AbbotsfordRating: 3 out of 5

Speaking as an Abby Canucks season ticket holder, who is at the game, I actually expected to see more star power. It was quite disappointing. I would likely have not come to this game if I had known what the line up was like. Been a fan since 1970 but will say that this isn’t the best promo for the Canucks. That said, I can forgive them at the Stanley Cup parade in June

  • Dull game no flash 2 mistakes cost them the game .

by Stick on 2023-10-07Abbotsford Centre - AbbotsfordRating: 2 out of 5

Disappointed in Canucks line up . Their forwards looked pedantic . Re parking , meters needed on both sides of arena or inside , was not aware they had shut down inside ones and had to go back out to use meter .

by Dad on 2023-10-03Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

The new cube score board is amazing.....just need to know how to work it :) Penalties were not on it all during the night and a 10 minute mess up at start of third where they couldn't figure out how to run the game time. You'll get there.....hopefully.

  • She’s a super fan!

by Ziggy Fritz Ackerhausen on 2023-10-03Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

What a great game! Canucks worked with such diligence throughout the entire game. Right down to the last 30 seconds. I was very impressed by their tenacity!! And then there are the stands. The fans. They were just as amazing. I believe this may be my third NHL game. I should’ve been rooting for the oilers because I grew up in Edmonton and the other two games were with them in the heyday. Now I will live in Chilliwack so I just couldn’t help rooting for the Canucks. The noise level after a goal was scored was off the charts. The reaction, the Dancing was off the charts. I am very appreciative of the trio that was sitting next to us. There was an incident and they stayed calm and cultured. I am deeply apologetic for what happened. Wow I’m entitled to another 4000 words. Should I go into minute detail? Nah! God bless us all, Charlie Brown!!!

I had an excellent time at my first Canuck game…. Plus it was an exciting big win 5-2. Very tribute to Truth & Reconciliation. The only negative comment I’d make. Is when I purchased my tickets. My confirmation and advertisement said game started at 7:00. My family is from Nanaimo and ferried over. We went for a nice dinner and realized when moving tickets into my Apple wallet.. the ticket said game time 6:00. We had to abandon our dinner and run to make the game. Also with a game time of 6, we could have caught the Hulu ferry back to the Island instead of getting a Hotel.

  • New jumbotron needs work!

by Canucks fan on 2023-10-03Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The new screen is impressive, but you really need to get on top of keeping the timer and the stats up to date. It's unacceptable to have the screen hold up the game so much. Also, please, please, please put the penalty timer on the big screen! It's baffling that it's not on there. One final thing is that where we were sitting, the action on screen was a mirror image of what was on the ice. So if the Canucks were shooting right to left on the ice, they were shooting left to right on the screen. Very distracting. You need to flip the feed on the side of the screen that's opposite where the cameras are.

  • Treated Myself To a Canucks Game!

    by M. D. on 2023-04-24Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I spontaneoulsly decided to treat myself to a Canucks vs Calgary evehockey game at Vancouver's Rogers Centre, Easter weekend. Through Ticketmaster I spontaneously aquired a single seat in the first row behind the penalty box glass. Also I booked into an upscale Hotel on Granville St. This was a surreal experience for me. I have never been to a Canucks hockey game. Matter of fact, I attended only two NHL games in the past 53 years. T.O. vs Chicago in 1970-71 season at Maple Leaf Gardens, and Calgary vs Edmonton in 1986-87 season at The Saddledome. As I entered Rogers Centre for the very first time, I was blown away by the increasing volume of excitement throughout the evening. The Vancouver Canucks Organization put on a first class program for all the fans, young and old. It was truly an entertainment filled few hours at the Rogers Centre! I will be excercising my privelige at 72 years old to M.A.I.D. on October 26th, 2023...my Birthday.

It was Easter weekend and I found myself all alone (for a change), as my wife decided to visit her sister. I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis 3 1/2 years ago. It is a terminial interstitial lung disease. I am in the throws of the final stage. You would be surprised if you saw me as I look very health. Well, otherwise I am! I was thinking to my self,

  • Class Act Organization

by Corey on 2023-03-16Rogers Arena - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I came in from Montreal on business trip and before heading to Whistler for a few days to ski, me and some friends decided to go to the hockey game. Prior to arrival, I heard that there were some fancier food options available at Rogers Arena. I stopped to ask one of the people that was hanging around and a gentleman by the name of Royce helped us gladly. He answered our questions in such great detail. Even when I mentioned one of my friends was vegan, he had all the answers and we were blown away by the amount of information being provided. He then walked us over to the area where we ordered our food. We all placed our order and without our knowledge, the entire meal for all of us including our beers was comped for us. We were completely shocked and didn't expect it. The experience had us talking about it most of the night. We were saying that back home at the Bell Centre this would have never happened. It really was a thoughtful gesture and it just shows that the Vancouver Canucks are class act. I want to commend Royce for taking his time explaining everything and making the evening a night to remember. Thank you again!
