It was ok, but not my favourite.

by smcyyc on 2020-02-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

This is totally a personal feeling, but I found it 'too traditional' for my tastes. The dancing was lovely, but I think I expected a bit more modern a take on the classical music. I also found it a bit strange that the intermissions were longer than the actual acts. The last act was probably the best although, there appeared to be a tiny mismatch of timing to the music. I did talk to someone who attended a couple of nights before, and they said that wasn't an issue there. But I felt like I was watching a figure skating routine where the big jumps were a hair off the big crescendo of music.

    Amazing ballet

One of the best ballets I have seen. Saturday nights performances of Yearn and Petal were stunning.

    Love the Variety!

by Sandra on 2020-02-16Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The last couple of years choreography has been spectacular. The story, the movement, the costumes and lighting. I love that the ballet has added a new dimension.

    Thoroughly enjoyable!

by Rese on 2020-02-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Watching the 3 different performances and styles of ballet was thoroughly enjoyable and made for a wonderful night out. While each Act was excellent in its own unique way, I must admit that Act 2, "Yearning to Make a Difference," choreographed by the sublime Anne Plamondon, was my favorite. The music was mesmerizing, the dance captivating, and the mood created and the message delivered moved me to tears. Outstanding!

    Spell-binding

by L. L. on 2020-02-15Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The Balanchine, Act One, was good although the music was too loud, as it was for all the Acts, and it didn't sound too Tchaikovskyish to me. The dancing was strong and enjoyable to watch. Act Three, 'Petal' showed wonderful dance form but the big panels of color didn't work too well for me and I certainly did not get a sense of flowers blooming or petals opening or anything. I did not like the ladies costumes as many of the dancers are so thin the costumes were not the least bit flattering and I found that a distraction to the performance. Act Two. I was spell-bound for the whole Act. Such an amazing piece of choreography and the intensity of the performance was palpable. I am sure there were moments when I had forgotten to breathe. I was rather surprised that when Anne Plamondon came on stage that the audience was not immediately on its feet. I am now looking forward to attending Peter Pan.
