The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was everything I hoped it would be and more. Over 2000 dogs to see up close and personally. I went with my Mom (it was her 60th Birthday gift from me) as we had been watching the show for years on TV. We were able to talk to the owners of these dogs and find out what really counts in each breed. My own dog passed away this year, she was an Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) and almost 18 yrs old. We miss her terribly and were not sure if we wanted to get another dog or what kind of dog would fit into our current lifestyle. We met many wonderful, helpful breeders that were able to answer my questions for me and connect me to their web sites for more info if I needed it. I had several fav moments but one stands out as particularly memorable. An Irish Wolf Hound and her Breeder were trying to make their way to the benching area, but she had big items to move along with her extremely large dog. The crowd was thick, moving at a snails pace and she was not making any headway. The breeder was starting to get anxious, especially about her beautiful hound. My very short (only 5'1") Mom took charge and got out front of the breeder and her trolley and next thing you know the crowd parted like the Red Sea for Moses and everyone got to where they needed to be going. The breeder looked at my Mom and said " You were right, you are bossy!" Then thanked her very nicely for her help! Way to go Mom! My only disappointment in this years show is that due to contruction in MS Gardens they had to move some of the benching area and due to limited space we were unable to see some of the dogs upclose. This included the toy breeds and smaller dogs :( ! But overall it was a wonderful, action packed 2 days and now my Mom and I can both say when we watch it on TV next year "We were there!" My Mom lives in BC and I am from Alberta. The trip to New York was sooo much fun and over way to quick! Hello to all the wonderful New Yorkers who made our trip so pleasurable! I can hardly wait to bring the rest of my family back to visit!
