    How Time Dragged

by Ojda on 2011-10-21The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Love his work and not just in Star Trek. We were a bit disappointed that he didn't speak TO the audience but to his 'interviewer' and the teleprompter interspersed with video clips from his past innumerable works. I had read his autobiography and felt this was just a spoken re-enactment. He is remarkably energetic for 80 though and I only wish he acknowledged more of the WHY Star Trek made such an impact on our culture. It was the 'benevolent" view of man's ability to progess, hope for the future, and the triumph of reason over force. He seemed again to want to reinforce what a small part of his career that represented...but that is what made him so famous, wish he was a little more grateful. Also, he should not have ended on that terrible spoken Hockey Night in Canada - stick to acting Mr Shatner!! Still enjoyed it and glad we saw him.

    VIP experience was a rip-off

by Dave0322 on 2011-10-21The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Shatner's performance was decent, and I personally enjoyed listening to him talk about his life and the things that mattered to him. He looked like he was having a good time and the 'Evening with Shatner' concept worked well for the show, I think. So, I would pay again to see a similar show, but I would NOT pay for the VIP ticket. When I bought the VIP ticket, I chose to go in with very low expectations. Those expectations were perfectly met. I think the VIP option was falsely advertised to some degree. The "mixer" did not exist, Shatner said less than two words to each person, and it was very in-and-out. This was a Shatner photo-op and nothing more. Not worth $400 -- give me a break! The VIP event would have been good (and authentic), in my opinion, if it was kept to less than 25 people and Shatner stuck around and socialized for an hour or two. That is a mixer. That is worth $400.
