WYNONNA IN CONCERT:

Country icon Wynonna Judd has been cranking out No. 1 hits since the '80s, and three decades later she sounds as vibrant as ever with her band The Big Noise. Wynonna made her debut with The Big Noise in 2011, and since then the group has wowed critics and fans alike with their passionate performances of her classic hits and new tunes like "Love it Out Loud". With tender ballads like "Come Some Rainy Day", rollicking tunes like "Girls With Guitars", and highly personal anecdotes from the grande dame herself, Wynonna and The Big Noise have something for everyone on their exhilarating live tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Wynonna rose to fame in the early '80s performing with her mother Naomi in the legendary country duo the Judds. Between 1984-1991 the mother-daughter pair released three No. 1 albums and fourteen No. 1 singles, and by the time Wynona launched her solo career in the early '90s she was already country music royalty. Her self-titled 1992 debut album topped the country charts, as did its first three singles "She Is His Only Need", "I Saw the Light", and "No One Else On Earth". Three more Top 5 country albums followed in the decade, establishing her as one of the genre's most influential and revered artists. Her success continued in the '00s with the chart-topping 2003 album What the World Needs Now is Love and the genre-spanning 2009 album Sing: Chapter 1, which spawned her first hit on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. A veteran performer with enough charm and charisma to fill even the biggest amphitheater, Wynona continues to dazzle on perennial tours with her band The Big Noise.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Wynonna was amazing!! She was funny and energetic pouring everything she had into every song. Her version of Foreigners "I Want To Know What Love Is" was powerful and brought me to tears."

"Wow, the new arrangement of old favorites, especially 'I Know Where I'm Going', are phenomenal! The energy level is through the roof & vocal performance is stellar!"

"How can you not love Wynonna!!! Sassy, sexy, smooth, silky voice!! She rocked the house and put energy in my soul. My husband, a non-country music guy, even loved her."

This is my 2nd time seeing Wynonna at the Red Robinson Show Theatre. Next time, I would love a pre-show meet & greet. Nothing would make me happier. My sister and I make Wynonna our date night. It's the perfect reason to leave the hubby's at home with the kids!!

    Wynonna: Raw, Funny & Down-to-earth

by bubblybrenda on 2011-03-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

Wynonna put on a spectacular show on March 11, 2011. I've only ever seen her perform as part of The Judds and wasn't sure if I'd enjoy her solo act or not. She knocked my socks off. She sang a varied selection of songs. Only a couple of her own songs and otherwise she sang songs by Merle Haggard; Tammy Wynette; Mercy Me; Phil Collins; Bonnie Rait etc. She basically just stands there (kinda like Alan Jackson), but she moves her arms and hands alot and gestures throughout the song. Her eyelashes were so long I could practically make them out from my 10th row seat. She wore a spandex-type black outfit (have you ever seen her in any colour but black?). Not figure flattering by any stretch but man did she ever look as if she cleaned out the bedazzled bead store. She has such a wonderful sense of humour. She had the audience laughing so many times. She doesn't take herself seriously at all on the stage but to me she came across as a woman really struggling to hold it all together in life. She talked alot about growing up and raising her own kids. Kinda talking during some of her songs. At one point she was talking so much she lost her place in the song and signalled to her backup singers to sing the song out until she got to to a place where she could jump back in. She got a standing ovation for the Mercy Me Song "I Can Only Imagine". She broke down crying during that song and again had to signal to her backup singers to pick up the song. She tried again and broke down again... then at the end of the song she said that the tears just come (which makes me think she is struggling with alot of life issues). She spoke about God and how she never realized how much she needed God in her life until this past year. At points through the night people were yelling out songs they wanted her to sing -- Judd songs. Wynonna said if we wanted to hear Judd songs then we will have to see The Judds show because this isn't a Judds show, it's a Wynonna show and she wants to show the songs that influence her (and they're not necessarily Judd songs). At the end when she came back for the encore, she sang 3 Judd songs: Grandpa; Love Can Build a Bridge (and I can't recall the 3rd song). I will definitely go see her again when she comes to town. It was a really, really good concert. No complaints from me. I think if you remotely like any of the Judds music that you won't be disappointed in Wynonna's show.

    Dont waste your money!

by whatever7 on 2011-03-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

I am going to be very honest.....Very disappointing!!! The best part of the concert was the encore....she sang a couple of her old songs. Wynonna actually moved away from centre stage and interacted with the crowd a bit. She was very boring, to sum it up I thought she was a SLUG!!!

she has a beautiful voice but......

by disappointed4 on 2011-03-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

.......I was looking and paid to hear more of her own songs. I can understand how she gets tired of singing the same old stuff all the time, but if she wanted to sing all the songs she liked, why doesn't she do an album of those songs. Not what I expected so I was quited disappointed

    spiritual experience - amazing

by burrzy on 2011-03-13Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

I'm not a hard core country fan - do not listen to country music. Wynonna is an exceptional talent, a vibrant personality, and her vocals have an honesty and a vulnerability that is magic. Wynonna is an extraordinary vocalist, but there are thousands of vocal talents out there. She 'moved' us - a very diverse audience: hard to do. The set was basic - the lighting was amazing... The backlit piano player during the more spiritual songs was hugely complimentary to Wynonna's work. Wynonna's phrasing and passion for her music, willingness to share details of her life with her audience was (she's too young to be called a legend) was that of a legend. Her new album 'Sing' is beautiful. The production values on the album - the material itself - it's a gift. Perhaps she's at a point in her career where she feels she can sing what she wants. That's a good thing: a really good thing. Wynonna is a blues artist, an iconic figure, a strong woman, a country legend and communicates through song on a spiritual level. I was getting over pneumonia - my body didn't want to go to a concert filled with a whole bunch of old people in the audience... but my heart made me do it. It was the right choice. Wynonna is 'sings' love - love heals. I know this is over the top - but you just can't pay for experiences like this - they are spontaneous gifts of generosity. The Casino theatre acoustics - the fact that there are no bad seats in the house - made the event all the more intimate. I'm bigger fan today, that's for sure- I'm a bigger fan of country music today. What a communicator.
