With his ubiquitous 2010 hit “Toot It and Boot It,” rapper YG established himself as one of hip hop’s biggest rising talents. Born Keenan Jackson in 1990, YG released his first mixtape at just 18, quickly garnering a large internet following with songs like “She A Model” and “Aim Me” and attracting the attention of Def Jam execs, who signed him to the label in 2009. After being featured on the CTE World mixtape Boss Yo Life Up Gang in 2013, YG announced that his upcoming full-length debut would be produced by rapper Young Jeezy. “My Nigga” was released as the lead single to the album in September of 2013, reaching No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marking his most successful single to date. In addition to a string of mixtapes released between 2008 and 2013, YG runs his own streetwear label 4Hunnid and his own record label Pu$haz Ink. On tour in 2013 with acts like TYGA and Yo Gotti, YG has earned a reputation among ticket buyers for a stage presence that belies his young age, fueling anticipation for his upcoming live concerts and the 2014 release of his debut full-length My Krazy Life.
YG took the stage with a solid energy. Opened up with some classics but cut them short after the 1st verse. Few songs later I kinda had the feeling he was gonna do this through out the show and he did, real bummer. His set was 40mins at most, which was underwhelming. Gig could've been awesome but we left the venue still hungry.
The venue was very nice, the openers for YG performed most of the show. YG was only on for 50 mins
The first half of the set was kind of disappointing and boring since it was a DJ performing and he was only playing trap music and various rap songs that are kind of like 2 to 3 years old (the only exception was Kap G's Girlfriend). Was expected for RJ to perform since on the promoter page, his set time was listed, but he didn't show up possibly because of the border. I was excited about Kamaiyah's set because her music was pretty good and her style is amazing; but, her set was not very mind-blowing or exciting since she showed less crowd interaction & the fans were less interested due to wanting YG instead. But overall, it wasn't a bad set but yet an unexciting one as well. Then, YG finally shows up due to 5-10 minutes of either technical issues or delayed set times, and he was the best out of everyone else on that entire show. First, he used the video board to interact with his fans as well as he came in with a stretcher, displaying various songs through storytelling (which in fact was exciting). He then came out and performed other amazing hits, got fans to beat the Donald Trump pinata & made the crowd more live. Overall, the final act always remains as the incredible act. I would highly recommend for everyone to go see YG instead since he'll have interesting crowd participation methods for the crowd to get hyped up.
