    Mind blowing

The sitar and tabla recital by kumar and Zakir Hussain was mind blowing! I literally had a front row seat to the performance.

    Zakir Hussain....Always a Delight!

by Nissie on 2011-03-19George Weston Recital Hall at the Toronto Centre for the Arts - Toronto

Zakir Hussain never disappoints. He is charming, humorous, a skilled musician and a first class world entertainer. The performance was delightful, a well balanced combination of serious ragas and playful sound experimentation. Zakir always includes a new twist to his repertoire. He was very generous with his encouragement of the young accompanying musician, Niladri Kumar, who excelled on the sitar. Zakir always looks at the other musician(s) and smiles, showing that he really connects with them. He is a pleasure to watch and to listen to....his performances are always a gift for the eyes and the ears of the audience.

    Disappointing!!

by Vidhwan on 2011-03-19George Weston Recital Hall at the Toronto Centre for the Arts - Toronto

First of all I purchased 4 tickets worth $47 each. The seats ended up being behind the stage. The sound from there was terrible. We were mostly getting reverb. Meanwhile there were plenty of seats out front that were empty. Too bad, I am sure the artists would have enjoyed seeing a bigger crowd in front of them. After the intermission we moved towards the front. The sound was much better from there but there was little musicality in the concert. Zakir Hussain of course was amazing but the sitar player sounded more like western guitarist than a sitar player.
