GERRY DEE ON TOUR:
Personal story looms large in the stand-up of Canadian comic Gerry Dee. A former sportsman and physical education teacher, Dee's act draws heavily on the comic potential of institutional learning and the inherently funny dynamic of teacher and student. As a finalist on the 2007 season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee more than proved his performance chops, beating out most of the competition to take home 3rd place. With his hit sitcom Mr. D entering its third season, Dee is sure to be sharper than ever on The Real Mr. D 2014 Comedy Tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Ontario, Gerry Dee played varsity hockey and golf at university before going on to become a physical education teacher. His experiences coaching young athletes and students provided him plenty of fodder for his stand-up act, and in 1999 he was named Toronto's Funniest New Comic. After deciding to pursue comedy full-time, Dee went on to win numerous comedy competitions and prizes in the '00s, including the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2002 — an honor he shares with comic legends Robin Williams and Ellen Degeneres. After a successful appearance on the 5th season of NBC's Last Comic Standing, Dee launched his namesake sitcom Mr. D on Canadian television in 2012, announcing its renewal for a third season in 2014.
The opening act was surprisingly very funny. Gerry Dee had some recycled material that I heard when I saw him back in 2022. I feel the show was way to short. Gerry was only on for about a hour and for $100 I don't feel it was worth the money spent.
My husband and I attended Gerry D as my husband is a big fan of his comedy career. I can say it was a great night of laughs and would highly recommend attending one of his shows. Very down to earth humour with comparable human experiences that sometimes you just have to laugh at. Thank you for the laughs Gerry!
Great laughs, wish it was longer and would love to see this show make it to Netflix. Great view and atmosphere at Massey hall.
He is just funny. One and a half hour of pure comedy. Well done Mr. D.
Great show with Gerry Dee giving us a fun evening of comedy. Won’t book the upper level seats next time. Knees in my back for 90 minutes wasn’t comfortable. I think they changed all of the seats except these ones. They look and feel old.
The show was excellent. I applaud Gerry, (and the opening act), only 1 swear word was used and applied appropriately. Todays stand up comedy, schock talk and endless swearing seems to be the the way to get your audience to laugh. Not necessary, take a bow Gerry Dee, your delivery great, story telling great. Loved the show. Thank you, Massy Hall.
My wife and I were in town for a ballgame, etc. We are fans of Gerry, and thoroughly enjoyed the show.
My cheeks were sore from laughing by the end of the show, it was awesome !!
Gerry D is non-stop funny. His stories are relatable to the whole family. He actually went overtime so he could tell us a few more stories. Gerry D is a must see for the whole family. Well maybe teens and older so they understand the stories.
Saw Gerry Dee 7 years ago. I had another chance to see him and jumped at the opportunity. All new jokes, found it just as entaining as he was 7 years ago. Highly recommended.
