About

Indie pop trio Foster the People came together in Los Angeles in 2009. The group is known for psychedelic, dance-orientated pop and rock which spans many genres. Their 2011 album Torches has sold over 321,000 copies and their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was the sixth-best-selling digital song in the same year, selling 3.84 million copies.
The band was formed by Mark Foster in 2009. He provides lead vocals and plays several instruments, including keyboards and guitar. His fellow band mates comprise Cubbie Finkton on bass and Mark Pontius on drums and percussion. Their first song “Pumped Up Kicks” was an internet success in 2011 and the group was offered a record deal. The band slowly began to build up a fan base by making appearances at small venues and appearing at several music festivals, including South by Southwest and at Coachella. They continued to perform and were booked for a month-long residency of concerts at the Echo night club in LA. By the time they came to perform for the third time, there were hundreds of people queuing to get in and the group were beginning to capture public attention.
Their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was released in 2011 and gained airplay on alternative radio stations, entering the Billboard Rock Songs Chart as well as the Alternative Songs Chart. In May of the same year, the track entered the Billboard Hot 100. Later that month, the group released the album Torches, which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 8. The band then embarked upon a sell-out tour in the US and Europe that lasted 10 months.
The band continued to build up a following, with ”Pumped Up Kicks” breaking into the mainstream top 40 and spending eight weeks at No. 3. Foster the People have scooped several awards for their music, including Top Rock Song for “Pumped up Kicks” at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. They have also been nominated numerous times, including two Grammy Award nominations for “Pumped Up Kicks” and Torches. At the awards ceremony, the band performed alongside Maroon 5 with The Beach Boys in celebration of the Beach Boys' fiftieth anniversary. In addition, the band have been nominated for two NME Awards and two MTV Music Video Awards. Their latest album is called SuperModel.

They were amazing. They played a good mix of their old, and new hits. Great energy, and all around good vibes. Would definitely see them again! Fun concert.

    Pumped Up Good Fun!!!

Very lively band, one of the best live acts as they are very energetic and infuse the audience with their enthusiasm. We all stood for the whole concert, most of us I think, and we bounced, sang along and generally got right into it with the band. There was a good mix of their fast energy filled tracks with several slower and more haunting songs. I was impressed with their performance and would see them again.

    High energy performance

by Anonymous on 2014-05-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

We travelled from alberta to see this concert. A high energy performance had the audience on their feet for the entire show. Vocal and musical performance was consistent with recorded music which is a good thing! Will see this band again when they come to calgary this summer!!!

Maybe it was because I didn't know their new album that well, I found Foster the People's live show to be bit lacking. The songs have a tendency to sound the same which was even more pronounced in a live setting. All in all it was enjoyable but there was no standout moment.

    Turn it down

by Anonymous on 2014-05-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The songs and energy of the band are great but why do they have to play the music so loud that the sound is incredibly distorted. The Que E is a great venue where most bands can achieve great sound. Not this time. Fire your sound guy. Although, he did achieve ringing ears after the show.

Foster the People rocked my socks off! Mark Foster would sing, dance, and jump around from instrument to instrument simultaneously and his band mates were just as passionate as well. These guys know how to put on a show!

    Amazing Show

by Anonymous on 2012-07-19Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

Amazing show on a hot sweltering night in Toronto after an unfortunate incident at Downsview a few nights before. The band was in good spirits and played an awesome show that I didn't want to end. I will have to be sure to catch them again the next time they roll into town.

Foster The People - GREAT show!!

by TrixieRose on 2012-07-16Downsview Park - Toronto

The venue and the beautiful weather definitely helped...but the show itself was fantastic!! They sounded just like their recording sound, which I really like in a live performance. They really were one of the best bands I've seen live, and I've seen a lot! I recommend them to any music fan, any concert goer, anyone who likes to have a good time! Bravo boys!
