About

Indie pop trio Foster the People came together in Los Angeles in 2009. The group is known for psychedelic, dance-orientated pop and rock which spans many genres. Their 2011 album Torches has sold over 321,000 copies and their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was the sixth-best-selling digital song in the same year, selling 3.84 million copies.
The band was formed by Mark Foster in 2009. He provides lead vocals and plays several instruments, including keyboards and guitar. His fellow band mates comprise Cubbie Finkton on bass and Mark Pontius on drums and percussion. Their first song “Pumped Up Kicks” was an internet success in 2011 and the group was offered a record deal. The band slowly began to build up a fan base by making appearances at small venues and appearing at several music festivals, including South by Southwest and at Coachella. They continued to perform and were booked for a month-long residency of concerts at the Echo night club in LA. By the time they came to perform for the third time, there were hundreds of people queuing to get in and the group were beginning to capture public attention.
Their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was released in 2011 and gained airplay on alternative radio stations, entering the Billboard Rock Songs Chart as well as the Alternative Songs Chart. In May of the same year, the track entered the Billboard Hot 100. Later that month, the group released the album Torches, which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 8. The band then embarked upon a sell-out tour in the US and Europe that lasted 10 months.
The band continued to build up a following, with ”Pumped Up Kicks” breaking into the mainstream top 40 and spending eight weeks at No. 3. Foster the People have scooped several awards for their music, including Top Rock Song for “Pumped up Kicks” at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. They have also been nominated numerous times, including two Grammy Award nominations for “Pumped Up Kicks” and Torches. At the awards ceremony, the band performed alongside Maroon 5 with The Beach Boys in celebration of the Beach Boys' fiftieth anniversary. In addition, the band have been nominated for two NME Awards and two MTV Music Video Awards. Their latest album is called SuperModel.

    Third Time, Still Mindblowing

    by CassandraS12 on 2011-10-03Sound Academy - Toronto

I saw Foster back in April at Lee's Palace then again in June at the Modd Club. I prefer when they play smaller venues because it's more intimate. Nonetheless this show was absolutely incredible, they put on a great live show. Each song had such power, soul, and awesomeness! I'd go see them again and again whether tickets are $20 or $100. They've never failed me and I look forward to seeing them on SNL on Saturday! They just keep getting better and better, I want this band to succeed beyond what they hope for and imagine!!!!!

spectacular show but rude and rowdy fans.

by AltF on 2011-10-03Sound Academy - Toronto

Foster the people were absolutely amazing live. They put on a great show but after a late start the crowd grew increasingly mean and rowdy. A drunk girl kicked my fiend - people continued to shove in making for an all around fowl mood.

    Amazing band!

by Airborne on 2011-10-03Sound Academy - Toronto

I had a good time and I haven't been to a show for a long while. The tracks were great and of course the most popular was saved for last. They played an extended version of "Pumped Up Kicks", which I've never heard before; it essentially sounds like a club mix. The venue was great, good location, staff and layout. The only bad thing was getting back home (transit route stopped after a certain time). I also wished the mic was more clearer, but I'm picky since I've been listening to a lot of hi-fi stuff.

    Could have been better

    by Diana5 on 2011-10-03Sound Academy - Toronto

The band itself was awesome. Nothing against FTP! The things that ruined my night were: 1) The sound- it was way too loud and distorted. The bass was way up there and I couldn't even hear what they were singing half the time. I was at the Elbow concert there a few days before and it was perfect. 2) People smoking. It was clear that people were smoking illegally in the venue, and yet security did nothing. It was obvious who it was (look for the smoke plumes in the crowd) but nothing was done about it. People also kept pushing and shoving, but not much can be done about that. I saw FTP at Lee's Palace and that was amazing- this experience however made me not want to come back to Sound Academy again.

Foster the People: must see again!

by hkp440 on 2011-10-03House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

Unique and well known bar- House of Blues! Foster the People was amazing and you could tell they love to play their music and aren't 'jaded' like many other musicians are after playing for a while- kind of like those musicians just want to get the performance over with to get onto the next show; Foster the People were totally into their music! Reptar and The Cults opened for them and they were both awesome- especially Reptar, they're a new band as far as I'm aware of but I definatley recommend listening to them!

    THEY WERE AMAZING

by hinny on 2011-10-02The Sound Academy - Toronto

Venue: Needed air conditioning, but it was a cold night, so glad it was hot in there at the end of it. Everyone was sweating though. Openings Acts: Were okay, Reptar was actually pretty good, Cults were not as good live. Why It's Not 5 Stars: The Opening Acts played for WAY too long, and the Intermissions were too long too. Foster the People came on at around 11:30 and the concert started at 9. Foster the People: Freakin' Amazing. No Other Words, they were better live than they are on their album. So much energy, and so much fun.

    disappointment with a silver lining

    by lhd33 on 2011-04-05Lee's Palace - Toronto

I was extremely disappointed that the lesands didn't make the trip as they were the reason I purchased this ticket. I didn't find out that lesands were not on the bill until after the first band played. Nothing was relayed to ticket owners for the cancellation and the door man in the line up even said all the bands were there... sadly, he was wrong. needless to say, I wasn't happy at all. I also took the greyhound and back the same night (to london) so just shy of $100 for that too.Thank god the other bands were good.

Amazing energy. Great voice. Great everything

    by Caro111 on 2011-04-05Lee's Palace - Toronto

I haven't been to a concert this good since coldplAy. Different style of music from coldplAy obviously but the energy the group shared was unforgettable. Unique sound, catchy tunes, great lyrics. After the concert we met the singer and he was so down to earth. Very cool. I wish them the best of luck and success!
