NIGHTWISH IN CONCERT:

When it comes to all-out symphonic metal spectacle, few bands hold a candle to the outsized pomp and showmanship of beloved Finnish rockers Nightwish. From the synchronized pyrotechnics and gigantic customized organ that dominate the band's stage show to the bludgeoning riffs and synth stabs that drive their music, Nightwish has all their bases covered to ensure fans are treated to a spine-tingling concert experience unlike any other. Acclaimed vocalist Floor Jansen joined the band in 2013 and her powerful vocals have become a highlight at their live shows, drawing fans out in droves for electric performances of favorites like "Amaranth" and "Nemo".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Nightwish formed in Kitte, Finland in 1996 under the leadership of acclaimed singer-songwriter Tarja Turunen. The band's early releases established them as stars in their home country, but international superstardom eluded them until the '00s when albums like Century Child (2002) and Once (2004) made their way onto charts around the world. The band parted ways with Turunen in 2005 after releasing the live album and DVD End of an Era, but in 2007 they reemerged with a new lead singer -- Anette Olzon from Sweden. The band recorded two chart-topping albums with Olzon -- 2007's Dark Passion Play and 2011's Imaginaerum -- before her pregnancy led them to seek her replacement for the Imaginaerum World Tour. Floor Jansen was announced as Olzon's permanent replacement in 2013, and she quickly earned rave reviews with her impassioned performances on the road. With their 2015 album featuring Jansen already generating buzz, Nightwish have fans chomping at the bit to catch their fresher-than-ever live show in the flesh.

Good show but missing their greatest song

by Abol on 2018-03-23MTELUS - Montreal

The show was good but I am surprised they didn't include one of their best songs Endless forms most beautiful in their decades album or perform it on the show even though I felt all audience were waiting for that and the YouTube counts shows it is one of their biggest hits

    BLINDING

by auby on 2016-03-08Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

NIGHTWISH had blinding light effects. After paying hard earned money to see NIGHTWISH, they use white blinding lights cast on the audience for dramatic affect. Half the time I had to close my eyes or cover them because it was simply blinding. I'm paying to see the band, not to be blinded by the bands lighting. This happened thoughout the whole NIGHTWISH concert.

It's been a long time since I've gone to a concert where ALL the band's were worth it. This is one of those concerts.

    Would go again tomorrow!!

by Belter on 2016-03-04Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I was expecting to just see Nightwish. BUT was totally pumped when Delain came on and played for an hour. Terrific start and I could of listened to them longer. Had never heard on Sonata Artica but was pleasantly surprised. Very good. Nightwish was awesome and put on a great show. Would of paid more for the 3 bands with a 4 hour show and would go see them all again in a heartbeat. Especially Delain and Nightwish.

    Nightwish was amazing!

by Anonymous on 2016-03-04Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Great show three hours solid, good opening acts. Some old, some new, couldn't have been better unless it was in a different venue. Being 6'-5" at the Burton Cummings is a challenge...

Floor burned the stage that night. The show is what I expected and even more. Definitely come back for their show.

Great concert spoiled by being too loud

by KeithM on 2016-02-24Metropolis - Montreal

The new signer Floor Jansen is great, second coming of Nightwish all right. Concert was marred by being far too loud, we were stood in the middle of the floor beside the mixing console, and the high frequency intensity was just far too loud. Wife and my ears were very muffled next day. Do your audience a favor and turn it down guys.

Not the best I've seen them

    by DrAmygdala007 on 2012-09-30Sound Academy - Toronto

This was my sixth time seeing Nightwish with Anette, and I have never really liked her that much, but they still managed to put on an entertaining show. However, this time she was much worse than usual. She seemed out of breath and could barely hit any of the notes from the Tarja-era songs. The setlist was not great either. They had a part in the middle with a bunch of slow songs (including the horrific jazz song from the new album), and they changed Nemo into the dullest song I have ever heard. Then when they went to pick up the pace, they chose an instrumental song, Last of the Wilds, which still did not wake me up. I actually considered leaving during that part because I was just so disappointed - but I toughed it out and stayed to the end... They played Over the Hills and Far Away and like the previous two times I heard them play this one, they screwed up the lyrics. Anette and Marco were singing different choruses, I couldn't tell you who messed up, but it was just embarrassing. Nightwish used to be one of my favourite bands, but lately I find it a chore to listen to them. I doubt I will see them again.

    NIghtwish and Kamelot Were MINDBLOWING!!

by shinzui on 2012-09-23Sound Academy - Toronto

I wasn't sure what i signed up for when i went to this concert. It was a small venue, not like the ACC or Molson Amphitheater. But somehow......it just made everything seem more intimate. I was eight feet from the stage and everything was amazing----the music was loud and passionate, the opening band was PHENOMENAL, and the bandmembers from both Kamelot and Nightwish were extremely sweet and enjoyable. The entire night was like a dream, and i would gladly go again, AND recommend these bands to anyone.

    COME BACK TO TORONTO SOON!!!

    by number1Fann on 2012-09-22Sound Academy - Toronto

This was a fantastic event!! Kamelot opened for them (<3) and they were great. However Nightwish stole the show! It was amazing how Nightwish engaged the audience. They sound EVEN BETTER LIVE than in the recordings... definately a plus for those who love the heavier tunage. I will for sure be going to their next concert in the area. COME BACK SOON!!!

    Nightwish really lit it up!

by Sapphhira on 2012-09-22Sound Academy - Toronto

What a great evening, Kamelot started off the evening on a perfect note that got everyone in the mood to rock and Nightwish set the place afire. Great sound, great lighting and the band was incredible as usual. The venue is nice with lots of access to the stage and bar, being a smaller venue it was easy to see the stage clearly from any part of the room. My seats were VIP balcony seats and I totally recommend them if you can get them. So worth the extra $$. On the VIP balcony you get large video screen of the event ( not that you need it cause the view of the stage is spectacular) there are couches and tables for comfortable seating and stadium style regular seats for unobstructed view of the stage below. I spent my night at the glass walled balcony as there was no way I could sit at a Nightwish concert. I took some great pics and enjoyed a perfect view of the entire show.

    Nightwish live

by McMiracle on 2012-09-22Sound Academy - Toronto

The band sounded great, and had a lot of energy. They mix it up and play new stuff, old stuff, hard stuff, slow stuff, and traditional songs, so there is something for everyone. Only problem was the end of the show they drag out with this long symphonic song playing the lights are all dim and the fans are chanting... but no encore.

    Awesomely epic

by agmcleod on 2012-09-22Sound Academy - Toronto

The show was really really good. As far as venues go, the sound academy isn't the greatest, but I still had an excellent time. Could hear the band quite well, they sounded great. A nice setlist of newer and older stuff.
