Las Vegas Raiders History

The Las Vegas Raiders began play in the American Football League in Oakland in 1960. In 1963, they hired head coach and general manager Al Davis, who engineered the greatest one-year turnaround in pro football history, leading the Raiders to a 10-4 record after they posted a 1-13 mark the year before.

From 1967 to 1977 the Raiders appeared in three consecutive AFL title games and six AFC championship games. They won their first national championship title at Super Bowl XI in 1977, beating Minnesota 32-14. In 1980, they became the first Wild Card playoff team to win a Super Bowl, beating Philadelphia 27-10 in Super Bowl XV.

The Raiders moved to Los Angeles in 1982 and the following year won their third national championship title, defeating Washington 38-9 in Super Bowl XVIII. After returning to Oakland in 1995, the Raiders won three straight AFC West titles from 2000 to 2002 and earned a berth in Super Bowl XXXVII. As the only franchise to play in the Super Bowl in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, the Raiders are known as the “Team of the Decades.” The Raiders relocated to Las Vegas in 2020 and made a playoff appearance in 2021.

The Raiders have 30 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including owner Al Davis.

Too much buck, not enough bang

by Geoff on 2019-08-27IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

I was really looking forward to this game, even though it was preseason, and bought my tickets fairly quickly after it was announced. I was expecting the ticket sales would be brisk. I was hoping to see some of the starters, but because of the field none of them played. It was also announced at the game that the field would be reduced to 80 yards and that there wouldn't be any kick offs. Now I really feel I paid to much, considering the price of preseason games in Minnesota. I liked our seats and the weather was perfect, but I can't help but feel we were taken advantage of by the privilege of having a NFL game in our back yard. I would not be interested in this again.

    CFL is more entertaining

by Kelly on 2019-08-26IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

The promise of starters and no effort by the wannabes, very poor entertainment for the price paid.

    Enjoyed atmosphere- weather excellent.

by CNFC Fan on 2019-08-26IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

Glad I went -But definitely were some issues. Ticket price was ridiculous- should have been roughly half the price - like what they did for cheap seats - after all is was a nothing game - pre season . Sad both starting quarterbacks ( Rogers and Carr didn’t play at least a quarter - why did they even both coming - nice to see on Television both Tom Brady and Cam Newton playing a quarter in their practice game. Finally what a joke wrecking our good field for nothing game - because NFL goal posts have to be used - then go a put the goal line on the 10 yard line - that was 10 out of 10 for being the best Mickey Mouse Field of all time - they wouldn’t have used that field in the movie the Longest Yard.I can’t imagine how much I would have enjoyed game if it was a regular game like London and Mexico get

    Traffic and Parking needs improvment

by Football Fan on 2019-08-26IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

I don't live in Winnipeg and flew from the west coast to see this game. Finding parking wasnt easy amongst all the confused parking attendents and traffic controllers, this was poorly executed. More notice than 20hrs prior to game time on the clear bag policy should have been given, we and the others sitting around us agreed this info should have been given at the time of ticket purchase. Venue was great, seeing that it wasnt sold out there was plenty of room to roam around. NFL should play a game in Vancouver, and we will show you guys how it should be done, with a sellout crowd.i

    Disappointing

by L. M. on 2019-08-26IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

I really am more disappointed than anything. My boy has been a Packers fan for the last 7 years and when I heard this was going to happen promised him I would find a way to get him to the game even though the ticket prices were ridiculously expensive. The disappointing part is the lack of scrupples from the promoter to advertise constantly about this big once in a lifetime event and not deliver on what he promised.

    Disappointment

by KL on 2019-08-26IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

It was a big sham. No starters even dressed, the field was pathetic and the play disappointing. I will never attend anything put on by that promo. outfit again.

    NFL

by Hoch on 2019-08-26IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

The whole evening was much less than I expected, from the entertainment value to the shortened field debacle. I know it was an exhibition game played in Canada but the experience left a lot to be desired. Thanks.

    Very poor event

by A. S. on 2019-08-26IG Field (Formerly Known as Investors Group Field) - Winnipeg

With all the time to present a presentable 100 yard field playing on 80 yards was terrible. We understand this was an exhibition game. 33 starters not playing is an embarrassment to the event. When players are trying to make the team you need starters to play with and against to finalize decisions. This effort was not fair to those players and the fans of the NFL. It looked more like minor league football.
