About

STEVEN WILSON IN CONCERT:

From his days fronting beloved groups like Porcupine Tree and No-Man to his acclaimed recent solo work, prog rock veteran Steven Wilson has been a beacon of experimentation and innovation in British music. Wilson's extremely diverse musical past is ever-present on his fourth solo effort, 2015's Hand. Cannot. Erase., an ambitious concept album that features a staggering range of musical styles, instruments, and affects. The through line of both the album and Wilson's marathon live shows is his technical virtuosity and willingness to take risks, a quality that makes his epic performances supremely exciting affairs. From jaw-dropping solos and extended breakdowns to Wilson's signature barefooted stage moves, ticket buyers can expect an electrifying and unforgettable concert experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in suburban London, Steven Wilson traces his love of music back to the first LPs he received as a Christmas gift from his parents -- Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and Donna Summer's Love to Love You Baby. By 11 he was playing the guitar and experimenting with a multi-track tape machine and a vocoder built by his electronic engineer father. Wilson played in various prog and experimental groups during his teens, and in 1986 he started the two projects that would define his early success: No-Man, a rock and synthpop outfit and Porcupine Tree, an experimental psychedelic rock band. By 1990 No-Man was generating major buzz, landing several singles on Melody Maker's coveted Single of the Week list including a cover of Donovan's "Colours". At the same time, Wilson's more experimental work with Porcupine Tree was also gaining underground success with a series of extremely limited releases that remain coveted cult classics today. Wilson began releasing solo material in 2003, starting with a series of cover albums before releasing his official solo debut album Insurgentes in 2008. Since then he has released three more albums including 2015's highly anticipated Hand. Cannot. Erase, a critically acclaimed album collection that fans are eager to see performed live.

Amazing artist in an intimate setting

by jasonipod2 on 2018-04-27Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I saw Steven Wilson at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto on Sunday, April 22, 2018. No opening act, just Steven and his band took the stage at 8:00 PM sharp. It started with a short video and then, he and his band played a whole bunch of songs from his latest album, To The Bone, mostly his newer stuff and songs from Porcupine Tree. Sound was really good, the musicians were great and the visuals were interesting for an intimate setting. Including a 20-minute, the show went on for three hours. I will see him again.

    Blown Away

by Johnnyboy1956 on 2018-04-26The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

This was my first Steven Wilson concert. I have been getting into his, and Porcupine Tree's music for about 6 months so the anticipation for this concert was high. I was not let down! The sound, video, visuals and lighting were stunning and the band were spot on. A fantastic show from start to finish.

Incredible talent on that stage. Especially the maestro himself! Wilson is the only artist that is truly breaking new ground musically and artistically in 2018.

    Amazing Multimedia Steven Wilson Show

by ProgKing on 2015-07-04Métropolis - Montreal

Fantastic intense show combining incredible musicianship with visuals for most of the songs. The focus was on the recent Hand. Cannot. Erase. but also older material. Steven Wilson is an excellent showman genuinely interested in putting on an excellent show. Highly recommended if you can catch the tour.

I did not know what to expect but my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary that same night and we did not know Steven Wilson. I took a chance based on the very good reviews and WOW... We enjoyed the show from the very beginning till the last minute... My wife was hoping for more even after two non stop hours of great music. That is what you call a professional band! A MUST SEE!!!

    Awesome concert, excellent venue

by KeithM on 2015-07-03Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy - GATINEAU

Concert started right on time. Excellent musicianship from Steven and the guys from start to finish, great sound quality. Steven is one of the leading musicians and music producers of our time, re-defining modern music, up there with Lennon-Mccartney and the great 70's rock bands. Only downside was the free ticket holders from the casino, mostly 65 yrs+ ladies scurrying out soon after the concert started.

Musically speaking, this is the best show I have seen in years... possibly in my whole life and I'm 47. If you like prog rock, this show is a must.

    Steven Wilson

Overall a great concert. Steven and company did not disappoint. Venue was great and best bang for the buck. Best concert value this year out of 6 concerts attended thus far. The crowd was a little disappointing though. How could you not get into "Sleep Together"???
