About

The New Pornographers in Concert

For the last two decades, The New Pornographers have been delivering infectious hooks, sweet harmonies, and a pile of power-pop riffs every time they take the stage. The critically acclaimed supergroup — A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Kathryn Calder, Todd Fancey, Blaine Thurier, John Collins, Joe Seiders and Simi Stone — embarks on a new tour in support of their brand new record In The Morse Code Of Brake Lights. The album is more of what The New Pornographers do best: "pure, blissfully irresistible power-pop" (NPR Music).

    I mean, they're a tight band...

by J. H. on 2023-05-15The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

But it kind of felt like watching one of those groups that recreates classic albums live... Musically they're tight, they sounded just like the albums, but it left me cold. It all lacked personality, and I'd rather see a fun, sloppy band than a tight, boring one any day of the week. (That said, I saw The Lemon Twigs a few days previous, and can attest that it's possible to be super fun and tight at the same time.) It was about eight songs in before anybody in the band even spoke to the audience. I've been a big fan of The New Pornographers since Mass Romantic came out in 2000, and this was the first time I'd been able to see them live; I was really looking forward to it. As it turned out I felt like I was just waiting the show out and left before the encore.

    On cloud-9

by Ecce on 2021-12-14The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

The music was great! What else would you expect from this band? Some people don't like their banter: well I don't go to a comedian to hear great songs. Of course that's just me. I just enjoy their personalities onstage.

    amazing show

by steven on 2021-12-10The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

ticketmaster generally delivers decent service, but they always leave me hating them a little bit. they're monopolistic, they nickel-and-dime us to death, and they outright own platforms for re-selling - at a huge profit - tickets to events that are sold out, which just seems crooked as f*ck, especially given the fact they've done nothing to dissuade online scalpers from batch-buying loads of tickets using bots. now they've asked if they might populate their site content with my review of a show. even though there are music journalists who would happily and professionally do so for a fee. well here is my review. of COURSE i thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the new pornographers performing twin cinema in its entirety. it was glorious and full of touchstone moments that made the evening even more special. i went to the trouble of contacting the opening act to let them know how lucky they are to have that drummer. the main point you should take from this review: if i had not been drawn by such talent and the promise of such a great evening of music, i would never have endured the ticket purchase experience through ticketmaster. had there been a way to see this show without benefiting ticketmaster i would have pursued it.

    Incredible Live Band

by Smirks on 2019-08-20The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

They are tough to catch in Toronto because they always come before releasing a new album, but they are always worth the effort. Just outstanding harmonies, and great musicians all around.

    Great Band

by ashesofroses on 2010-07-16Vogue Theatre - Vancouver

Great band, great opening acts. The Vogue definitely isn't great for summer events though; it was way too hot, and the cramped seating made it even worse.

    The New Pornographers

by Hughman on 2010-07-16Vogue Theatre - Vancouver

The New Pornographers were amazing live. They do not disappoint. Their sets were clean and energetic. They just need to work on their on-stage banter or leave it out all together. Great show, well worth the ticket! They attract a wide range of age and audience which is nice to see. The venue is good, good sound, no bad seat in the house. Now I would like to vote the Vogue as the worst bar offering in Vancouver. Really bad wines and OK, sorry Chardonnay drinkers, but most prefer other. No cider or hard alcohol, no clean ice or soda water or perrier. I give the bar a no star. The staff, including the very appologetic bartenders, are very nice.

Pretty solid concert, although I found it to be a touch too loud for my ears, especially for an indoor concert. Songs were great! It would have been a complete 5 stars if Neko had been able to make it.

    Best. Music. Ever.

by SlamD on 2010-06-16Sound Academy - Toronto

As a frequent concert goer I have seen a lot of really good shows roll through the Sound Academy and Toronto in general. The New Pornographers however bring it to a whole new level. The quality and depth of the music that comes out of those speakers when they're on stage is unreal. The studio albums don't do them justice. Neko Case's voice is unreal and the talent of A.C. Newman reigns supreme. Although they didn't bring the stage energy that usually get's me pumped at a show (The Hives/Streetlight Manifesto) it is more than made up for by the music itself. The New Pornographers in concert are pure musical euphoria.

    New Pornographers

    by fathom5 on 2010-06-16Sound Academy - Toronto

Amazing venue! These guys kept on going without taking any breaks. Kept the audience energized while providing an assortment of their music. They sound better live than on their albums! Much respect to the Dodos and The Dutchess and the Duke! I had a great time!
