Vancouver Canucks History

The Vancouver Canucks started play in 1970, entering the league along with the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver has been to the Stanley Cup Final on three occasions, though they lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Despite humble beginnings, the Canucks continued to develop. With the arrival of three key players — Captain Trevor Linden, netminder Kirk McLean, and "the Russian Rocket" Pavel Bure, the Canucks had a winning Playoff run season — making it to the 1994 finals.

The Canucks continued to acquire superstars like Alexander Mogilny and Markus Näslund, and while the following years meant a series of losses, it allowed for the team to draft Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who would go on to lead the Canucks to Presidents' Trophies in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, as well as their finals appearance in 2011.

Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena

The Vancouver Canucks play their home games at the 475,000-square foot Rogers Arena, which also played host to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games where Sidney Crosby scored the “Golden Goal.” A staple of downtown Vancouver, the Canucks played their first game at the arena on October 9, 1995. Other notable events that have taken place at the arena include the 1998 NHL All-Star Game, 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and in October 2002 when Queen Elizabeth II dropped the ceremonial first puck during an NHL exhibition game between the Canucks and San Jose Sharks. Additionally, the arena played host to Games 1, 2, 5, and 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

by Keepitreal on 2024-03-12Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Cannot believe they have NO CUP HOLDERS at the Canucks home game. Not only did they trash the Jets ( my team) even worse there was no where to put your beverages! How can that be???

Took the family to thier first game, believe they enjoyed most of it except the score. Only complaint is the seats! There could be more cushion for comfort.

    Go Jets Go

by Joanne on 2024-02-20Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Leading up to the Canucks - Jets game Ticketmaster continually reminded me how to store my ticket on my iPhone, how to gain entry on game day, and when I was to be at Rogers Arena. I was left feeling as if the game wouldn't go on until I got there. The game itself was amazing filled with all of the razzamatazz you can imagine. The best experience ever!

Getting in, no trouble. The atmosphere and the Canuck win was the wow! The only hassle? Getting out and finding a cab, real bad.

Travelled from Aus! Our seats were unbelievable, the atmosphere was next level. We came for carnage, and just happened to see an awesome game. Even if it wasn’t the end result we wanted. Go Canucks Go!

The building is ran like a dumpster fire! Zero respect!

by Concerned Fan on 2024-01-27Rogers Arena - Vancouver

So many deficiencies in the building and dereliction in the way it is ran. Apparently, it's now all about making big serious cash, in violation of the fans rights & expectations associated as attendees to a pro sports event, in Canada. Never ever has been like this i our Vancouver Canucks history. It's really embarrassing as an original fan! They don't seem to care whatsoever either, because they have been made aware way too many times, and it just is getting much worse, instead of better! No way any other business would make it operating in this fashion. They need a stiffer notice, because they are sleeping at the wheel. Leading me to write this! It's definitely not classy at all, how they operate!

Hardly any of the bathroom taps work

by Concerned Fan on 2024-01-26Rogers Arena - Vancouver

So many of the auto taps in the bathrooms are not working in the building for like 3 years now. It's getting so ran down. Apparently they don't care about the customer at all! Just keep raising tickets prices so no working families can afford it either. The seats are literally falling apart! So are the new black ones only a few months old. Sad state, I've never seen like this since the coliseum, which we didn't care about we were use to it. Tickets were reasonable in relation, too. We really are not getting what we are paying for with the venue! Luckily for them, the team is doing good, so they even seem to care a lot less this year.

    Love Live Hockey!

by Vancouver Island fan on 2024-01-25Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Bought our tickets 6 months ago to see Chicago Blackhawks (and Connor Bedard) play our Vancouver Canucks. Planned our trip from Vancouver Island. Tickets were going fast, but we got good seats in the lower bowl. Learned how to have our tickets, in my wallet on my phone and had an easy time at the entrance. Enjoyed the pre-game excitement around the arena and the hustle and bustle of all the fans. Had a wonderful, first class pre-game dinner at 'Carve' and fun watching all the entertainment at commercial time and at intermission times. Would love to go again, soon!

    Fun night!

by Hack on 2024-01-25Rogers Arena - Vancouver

It was exciting in the first period when the Canucks scored two goals very quickly, but the rest of the game was somewhat so so. What really made the evening fun where all the events that went on besides the game. The music, contests, the halftime entertainment, and the general atmosphere, where everyone was having a good time, made it a great evening..

    Awesome experience

by KiwiFamily on 2024-01-25Rogers Arena - Vancouver

We are a family from New Zealand who were on holiday in Canada. Our 16 yr old daughter really wanted to see an ice hockey game. We were blown away by the pregame build up, the entertainment and interaction with the crowd. Great experience for us. Glad the Canucks scored twice in 1st period.
