Vancouver Canucks History

The Vancouver Canucks started play in 1970, entering the league along with the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver has been to the Stanley Cup Final on three occasions, though they lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Despite humble beginnings, the Canucks continued to develop. With the arrival of three key players — Captain Trevor Linden, netminder Kirk McLean, and "the Russian Rocket" Pavel Bure, the Canucks had a winning Playoff run season — making it to the 1994 finals.

The Canucks continued to acquire superstars like Alexander Mogilny and Markus Näslund, and while the following years meant a series of losses, it allowed for the team to draft Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who would go on to lead the Canucks to Presidents' Trophies in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, as well as their finals appearance in 2011.

Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena

The Vancouver Canucks play their home games at the 475,000-square foot Rogers Arena, which also played host to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games where Sidney Crosby scored the “Golden Goal.” A staple of downtown Vancouver, the Canucks played their first game at the arena on October 9, 1995. Other notable events that have taken place at the arena include the 1998 NHL All-Star Game, 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and in October 2002 when Queen Elizabeth II dropped the ceremonial first puck during an NHL exhibition game between the Canucks and San Jose Sharks. Additionally, the arena played host to Games 1, 2, 5, and 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

    Luuuuuuu

by Canner on 2023-12-17Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Was one of the best events we’ve ever seen. So great to not only see Roberto Luongo, but also Daniel & Henrick Sedin, Cory Schneider, Kirk McLean & Mason Raymond. And as an extra bonus, not only did the Canucks win, but Thatcher Demko got a shut out. It was the perfect Canucks night.

    Absolutely amazing

by Megan on 2023-12-15Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I have seen a couple of other NHL teams host the Vancouver Canucks but this was my first time seeing them at home and I was not disappointed. The vibe and energy in the Rogers arena was so hyped and it was so much fun to be there cheering on the Canucks. The Canucks played so well and ended up winning which made the experience even more amazing. If you’re thinking about seeing a Canucks game, I 100% recommend it.

Great Game as long as it's a CANUCKS WIN!

by Vincent on 2023-12-13Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Love the atmosphere and love how the guys showed up and played hard! It would be even better if the merchandise is a bit cheaper. But it was a great experience nonetheless!

Enjoyed the game, our neighbors not so much

by Atendee on 2023-12-12Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Hosts could check in with crowd more diligently to make sure heckling is in better taste. Attendees next to us and behind were using foul/racist language and vaping with our 12 year old son in attendance. Other younger children were also close by.

    Good Fun

by Victor on 2023-12-04Rogers Arena - Vancouver

The infrastructure of the stadium is good, lines to get food are not too big. Things are a bit pricey, but not unexpected. The crowd lacks energy, sometimes felt the entire event was low energy. Pump it up.

    Not a great experience

by AdrianC on 2023-12-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Arrived at the Rogers arena early for the game Vancouver Canucks vs Vegas Golden Knights. The pre-match entertainment was far better than the game itself which was very one sided and lacked both the on ice spectacle and atmosphere of games I have previously been too. Food and drink outlets are very expensive and washroom facilities poor when you are on the higher levels. Access only appeared to be by stairs with no lifts. Getting away from the Rogers centre by taxi back to our hotel was a nightmare. All in all not the experience we had hoped for or expected. My wife wanted to re-enter the arena on the lower level to use the washroom facilities, but was denied access by the event staff

    Disappointed

by Mike on 2023-12-03Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I save up all year to be able to come over from the island to see a game to see a sub par performance from the Canucks. Just a little disappointed.

    Saturday night with the Canucks

by KondoVanCity on 2023-11-21Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Game aside (they lost). The entertainment value from Orca Bay is good. The complaint always about the games are the venue in which seats are so tight that you are always sitting on top of each other. Unless you are 125 pounds prepare to be intimate with the person next to you. Food prices and beer prices are too high but that is common in most sporting evensts.

    Canucks game

by Travis on 2023-11-21Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Way too many people seated in the wrong section...half of the first period was spent moving people around by the usher, which completely obstructed my view and that of my 7 year old son. This was the worst game I've ever been to for this type of thing. This indicated to me the usher was not where he should have been when people were coming in. Very unprofessional.

First time at the Canucks game. wonderful experience. The event is well organized with so much entertainment. Super helpful staff and good service. From Security check points to elevator, food ordering and delivering services. Food prices are very high but overall good experience at the arena.

    Great hockey experience.

by Bill on 2023-11-18Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Fun time at the Canucks game. First time there, the atmosphere, concessions and entering/existing the facility were all top notch. The only recommendation would be to open the doors an hour earlier so people, especially first timers like myself, have more time to take in the concessions and the arena.

    NHL set up is ok

by Just a fan on 2023-11-18Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Love the location, right beside the sky train. Nice and clean venue throughout. Signage isn't the best, for a first time visitor. I probably would have been better to use Google maps to find my gate. Inside was slightly better, except for the members lounge blocking concourse flow for the lower bowl (NHL game). Having said that, getting in and out of the arena doors is pretty quick. It only seats about 19k people, so that helps. $13 for a can of beer from the vendor's walking around is a bit ridiculous. These vendors don't have a price sign, which I guess is the strategy... Overall, it's ok. One game every year or two is all it's worth.
