Most expensive movie I've ever been to. With the amazing sound technology available now, the orchestra only sounded marginally better.
Beautiful experience, my girls enjoyed dressing up for it and the show was amazing ! We all loved it !
Absolutely amazing performance by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. If you have the opportunity to take your young kids, do it! Lots of kids and adults dressed up like the Frozen characters, including my daughter. She loved it. It's such a fun event to get dressed up, and have a fancy night out with the kids/family. Highly recommend.
We thoroughly enjoyed seeing Frozen at the Jubilee. The orchestra was amazing and the kids had a lot of fun! One suggestion would be to have some peanut free snacks for all those kiddos with allergies.
I’ve been a fan of the CPO for 2 decades, so I jumped at this opportunity to bring my 4.5 year old daughter. First, getting into this parking lot is way more complicated than it used to be, and luckily we arrived early so I had time to tour all around the community before finally finding a way in. Next, the parking machine was damaged, so it was taking a very long time for everyone to get in, the line ups started here. Then we got into the building, and there are huge lineups to get into the theatre (all entrances, but we were 1st balcony) while the overhead told us the show is starting…maybe more staff to scan tickets at this time? Once in the theatre, it was hot and smelly. Ok, so it’s full of cute kids in dresses, but some AC was definitely in order. The show started the moment we took our seats (so much for being 20 minutes early huh?), and I kid you not, you cannot even tell there’s an orchestra playing the score. They played it to a tee, which I guess is the point, but I had to remind myself (and my daughter) that we weren’t just watching the film on a mediocre screen surrounded by hundreds of coughing and farting kids, but that the real show here is the orchestra. Unsolicited advice - a choir would really have brought the show to life, especially as this particular film has several beautiful choir parts. Some live vocalists as well, imagine seeing Elsa sing the songs live! I also noticed some of the score was straight from the audio of the film, the orchestra wasn’t actually playing…so eventually it became difficult to hear whether or not anyone was playing because we could barely see any of the musicians behind the screen. Bring that orchestra out front, out of the pit, and let the kids see where the music is being made, maybe highlight an instrument or two to demonstrate the sounds they can make. Lastly, I have to put a comment about lineups at the washrooms and vendors, because although I do expect them during intermission, it shouldn’t take the ENTIRE intermission. We didn’t even have time to buy snacks or juice because the show was resuming as we left the washrooms. Parents, bring your own snacks and beverages! Overall, nice idea, not keen to do it again, didn’t have much wow factor (compared to other CPO performances) for the hassles involved.
Great show! Had an amazing time with the kids - they enjoyed the movie and we enjoyed the live music! I wish they would have brought the lights up a bit during the credits so we could see the orchestra at the end, though.
Was expecting a concert with singers ( liked what shows in European countries) It was just a movie with the Orchestra , and can’t barely hear it, mostly are from the movie itself.
The performance was wonderful. The CPO did an outstanding job. We attended the afternoon performance and wish they had ended before the credits. Although the music was beautiful during the credits, the crowd of young children had enough. It would be helpful to parents of children, who are trying to make the arts a positive experience for their families, to keep this in mind: for the afternoon performances, when you are expecting young kids, keep it short and sweet. Evening performances, go all out!
It was absolutely a beautiful experience and I will definitely try going to another ine
