54-40 in Concert
Vancouver's 54-40 keep exploring new permutations of their durable alt-rock sound 40 years on. In 2018, they released their first new album in seven years, the aptly titled Keep on Walking, which saw them effortlessly shift from nervy new wave ("Sublime Like Me") to clap-along folk hootenannies (the title track) to swaggering, soulful modern rock ("Sucker for Your Love"). They sound just as energized and adventurous as they did back in the 1980s. After recovering much of the rare gear stolen during their 2018 tour, 54-40 brave the road once again with a winter jaunt across Ontario, kicking off with a three-night residency at Toronto's legendary Horseshoe Tavern before moving to more off-the-beaten-path markets.

Their very first gig may have been opening for hardcore heroes D.O.A. at legendary Vancouver dive Smilin' Buddha Cabaret, but 54-40 swiftly acquired a more chameleonic aesthetic that pushed them far beyond punk. On the string of college-radio-courting records they released in the mid '80s, the quartet (named for 19th-century president James K. Polk's call to expand into Canada, "Fifty-four Forty or Fight!") resembled a northern answer to R.E.M., exhibiting a similar fusion of brooding British post-punk and shimmering American folk-rock jangle. But frontman Neil Osborne's cool attitude gave way to winsome melody on breakthrough singles like "Baby Ran" and "I Go Blind" (which reached an even wider audience when Hootie & the Blowfish covered it in the ‘90s). As alternative rock skewed toward heavier sounds, 54-40 toughened up accordingly on 1992's Dear Dear, whose snarling singles "She La" and "Nice to Luv You" would give the band their first platinum record in Canada. They'd repeat the feat with 1994's Vancouver punk-scene tribute Smilin' Buddha Cabaret, which yielded the irresistible, grungy groove of "Ocean Pearl." With former Matthew Good Band guitarist Dave Genn replacing longtime member Phil Comparelli, the band have soldiered on into the 21st century, earning an induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2017.
The Northern Pikes and 54-40 put on a fantastic show! Brought me back to my high school days hanging out with my best friend and playing these songs on repeat. Their music was our anthem and is still so relevant today! Can't wait to see them again next time they come around!
54 40 and Northern Pikes delivered what the Fans wanted! Great Energy, all the Hits, some new Material and top of the line Vocals. A show well worth seein.

I have always been a distant fan of this group. Seeing them live is a treat that one seldom is lucky enough to experience - from my point of view at least. These guys absolutely nailed every song and played and sang their hearts our all night. Then the encore….. it was a concert all on its own!!! Thank you Neil, Dave, Brad and the rest of the group on stage and behind the scenes for a spectacular show. I can only hope they come back to Ontario SOON!! SIMPLY AWESOME !!!!!!!
Rush level musicianship and warm humour loved every minute. 20 somethings can't rock this hard! Great venue to see live music, cash bar in the room!
Both Northern Pikes and 54-40 delivered solid, well delivered shows…both instrumentation and vocals still standing the test of time which isn’t always the case for bands of their respective vintage! A tip of the hat to both bands for making it look easy and continuing to deliver great live music.
Nice job by both the bands Sound was a little to loud 54-40 kick drum was oscillating may be tuned to low for sound system or over amplified or out of phase Northern Pikes kick drum was good but again just a little to loud

Fantastic concert. Great seats. And was super easy to use Ticketmaster. It allows you to keep the tickets in your wallet app, and even sent reminders to you about the concert coming up.
Expected more..more #1 songs..so many were not played. I had great seats and sound was very good. Waiting to get in is the same line up to get to bar!!????
the concert was absolutely fabulous! loved every minute of Northern Pikes and 54-40. i would have liked for the seats in front to not be so close. that made it uncomfortable when someone needed to get out and return. please add just a little space between rows.
5440 always put on a fantastic show, and did not disappoint. The show was great and I can't wait to see them again. The Northern Pikes were really good too. All in all a we had a wonderful time.
They sound the same as they did 30 years ago. Looking forward to seeing them live again.

Loved the performances by these two super Canadian bands! Club Regent Theatre in Winnipeg, is an excellent venue with great viewing from any seat, the option of standing/dancing, and a close-up musical experience.
54-40 still rocks. Enjoyed hearing songs from my younger years. Awesome when you know every song. They still sound great. Northern pikes were also great. Sound just as I remembered. First time at club regent event Center. Love the smaller venues. Will definitely be back.

54/40 and Northern Pikes haven’t lost a beat! Was a fantastic show. Great venue and and entertaining night!
I am a big fan of the Northern Pikes and have been to many of their shows but this was my first time seeing 54-40 live. I was really impressed with the show, they really involve the audience and their songs stand the test of time. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this show.
These two bands were great! Highly recommend going to! Perfect venue for them!
