Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium

Truly representing both Carolinas, the Carolina Panthers play their home games at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., just miles from the North Carolina-South Carolina border.

Specifically designed for football, the 73,778-seat, open-air, natural-grass stadium was opened on June 27, 1996, and includes training facilities, practice fields and administration offices. The stadium facade features a number of unique elements including massive arches and towers at the entries, clad in building materials that accent the Panthers black, blue and silver team colors.

The stadium has undergone extensive renovations, beginning in January of 2014. The project has featured the construction of escalators, scoreboards, ribbon boards and a distributed sound system, as well as upgrades to club lounges and suite areas, the 100-level and 500-level concourses, the beautification of the north side of the stadium, the installation of a state-of-the-art distributed antenna system for cellular service, a new WiFi system and security upgrades.

In addition, the stadium playing field, which has been host to more than 200 football games and special events, was completely replaced and a new irrigation and drainage system was installed.

Carolina Panthers Team History

The Carolina Panthers became the 29th National Football League franchise on October 26, 1993. The Panthers began play in the 1995 season, winning an expansion-team-record seven games. In 28 seasons, Carolina has won six division titles, including three consecutive NFC South division titles from 2013-15. The Panthers have played in 17 playoff games, winning two NFC Championships and appearing in Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl 50. The Carolina Panthers are one of just a handful of NFC teams with multiple Super Bowl appearances in the last 20 years.

The Panthers were coached by Ron Rivera from 2011-19. Rivera guided the team to a Super Bowl appearance, an NFC Championship and three consecutive NFC South titles (2013-15). He is a two-time (2013 and 2015) Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year award winner. Rivera inherited a 2-14 Carolina team as a rookie head coach in 2011 and guided it back to relevance with four playoff appearances in a five-year span between 2013 and 2017, tying Green Bay and Seattle for the most NFC playoff appearances during that time. In that five-year span, the Panthers recorded 51 wins, the most in any five-year period in franchise history, and tied for fifth-most in the NFL.

Love the stadium. Very friendly folks. Quite the tailgating, there was even an organized get together for Seahawk fans at local pub on Saturday night and tailgating place for game day (via Facebook). However cannot get a drink at local pub until NOON although they open at 9 AM! As a visitor to the city --- we did not know this and when we googled local bars, they indicated they were open that early on Sunday. We assumed they were serving liquor. Note to all - check local by-laws when attending NFL games!.
