DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

  • Great but could have been better

by PM on 2025-01-06Rating: 4 out of 5

Loved the concert, musicianship was amazing but we really wished there had been a back up band, as great as Diana is, the show and venue just screamed for it as it just adds a bit of expected nuance to the performance. Paying what we did, we expected more.

  • Puzzling

by Nico on 2024-12-27Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy - GatineauRating: 3 out of 5

She performed for about 75 minutes without an intermission so I do feel that she delivered; and when she was performing, she was good. However, it was quite disturbing to see her so disoriented. She could hardly put tow thoughts together, she often could not remember the names of the songs she was playing, truly struggled to finish any sentence. Frankly, she looked like she was under the influence of something.

  • A wow performance

From the moment she walked on and was so beautiful and sincere with her chat! Then non stop beautiful singing and playing! The evening with Diana Krall was beyond marvelous and the feeling in the theater during and after was palpable for its appreciation of everything great! Go see her if you can!

  • Wonderful interaction

by Aje on 2024-11-24OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Diana was wonderful. Her ability to wow the audience obvious. The big screens help with the details. You should make a sign on the big screen that tells people to be quiet during the event. The talking was really annoying. And apparently people don’t know any better. So a sign would maybe express the expectation. Just an amazing person and wonderful pieces played.

  • Good but could have been better!

Diana Krall is an absolutely amazing talent as both a pianist and vocalist. I was a little disappointed in the fact that she was performing solo, but understand that in doing so, it allowed her creative freedom, that playing with a band would not do. However it would have been nice to hear some other instruments throughout the show than just the piano. We saw her over 20 years ago perform with her band and enjoyed it very much, but she still is not much of an interact with the audience performer. She has worked with so many people throughout the years that it would have been nice to hear some more stories about these musical experiences. Glad we went and if we ever go to another show of hers again, there will have to be a back-up band. Don’t mind if she takes some time during the show to perform in her own, but not interested in seeing her as a solo artist again.

  • Finally an intimate night

by hometechie on 2024-11-24OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino - Niagara FallsRating: 5 out of 5

Diana Krall continues to dazzle. Responding to audience requests to improve some of her setlist. Creating mashups and putting her own style on standards. Playing some of her new songs. Her talent on the piano is obvious. The performance feels loose and spontaneous in a good way (as all great jazz performances are). This particular tour feels much more intimate than her past ones. It's just her, a piano, and a mic. No accompanying band. You get to experience her in all of her amazing talent.

  • Excellent concert!! So personable!

Diana Krall was exceptional! A wonderful intimate concert with just her and the piano! Enjoyed it thoroughly! The venue was great as well!

Great night at OLG Theatre Fallsview Niagara for Dianna Krall. She’s a beautiful talent and a gentle soul. Sang all the favourites and classics, added some great covers! 90 minutes solo on the piano and singing. Bravo.. thrill of a lifetime for me.
