About

ABOUT PORTUGAL THE MAN:

Over the past decade, Portugal The Man has established themselves as one of rock's most prized possessions and a live phenomenon, with over 1,600 shows under their belts and a storied reputation as festival favorites.

Originally heralding from Alaska, the Portland-based band - comprised of John Gourley, Zach Carothers, Kyle O'Quin, Eric Howk, Jason Sechrist and Zoe Manville - soared to new heights in 2017 with the release of their RIAA certified-gold album, Woodstock. The album was marked by the astounding success of their infectious single, "Feel It Still," which earned the group a plethora of new accolades - including a GRAMMY award for "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance," a 6x RIAA platinum certified single certification, a mind-blowing 20-week residency at #1 on alternative radio, and an inescapable presence on the Top 40 airwaves.Alongside the shine of their myriad musical accomplishments lies the group's long-standing passion for social justice. In fact, this is precisely the intersection on which Portugal The Man thrives; throughout their career, the band has consistently exemplified how to deeply commit to both artistry and activism. This dynamic inspired them to officially launch their PTM Foundation in 2020, focused on universal issues related to human rights, community health, and the environment, with an emphasis on causes directly impacting Indigenous Peoples.

Their continued passion for activism has also led to recent partnerships with organizations such as the National Coalition Against Censorship, The Skatepark Project (helping communities build public skate parks for youth in underserved communities), March for Our Lives (Gun Reform), Keep Oregon Well (Mental Health), and Protect Our Winters (Climate Change), to name just a few.

    Best. Performance. Ever.

Portugal. The Man, put on such a great performance. They were all so passionate with every song. 10/10 show. I would go again

    Not good

by GG on 2023-11-15Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

One of the worst shows I’ve ever been to. Sound was bad, lighting was bad, and the performance lacked energy. They didn’t interact with the crowd whatsoever. Expected a lot more, especially for 80$. Don’t plan on ever seeing them perform again

Should be a stadium show but I’m glad they’re not

by Marib on 2023-11-14Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

If I had the $ I would have flown to the next shoe to see and hear it all over again! It was just fantastic!

Listen to their music from home

    by s_i on 2023-11-13Midway - Edmonton

This show was a huge disappointment. It started off with a lovely introduction by an Elder. After that, the band came on, played a straight set, and left the stage. They did not acknowledge the audience or interact with us at all. It felt like they just wanted to get through the show and leave again. We were so excited to take our teenage kids to their first show and what a shame that it was this band! I hope it will not put them off going to live shows. I definitely will not see them again. Love the music, but don't care for the band. Waste of time and money.

    Dark & Smoky

by 60sBorn on 2023-11-11Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

Loved the opening band, Good Kids. Great vocalist. Disappointed in the staging of Portugal The Man, very dark and someone was having way too much fun playing with the smoke machine. Could never see the faces of the band.

    Pretty decent

    by E. R. on 2022-05-09

I saw PTM with alt j a few weeks ago and I gotta say. I think PTM wouldve sounded better in an open music venue like Budweiser stage. I think coca cola collesium was too echoey for their sound and I could barely understand half they lyrics they sang because the sound was just blasting my ears. That being said, their showmanship and crowd engagement were some of the highlights of the show. I loved the transition from another Brick in the wall pt2 to purple yellow red and blue as well as the many covers they did (and did well) from bands like metallica, the beatles, Pantera and even covering the guitar solo from Pink Floyd's 'time' to near perfection. You can really tell that these bands were huge inspirations to PTM and it's nice to see modern bands paying tribute to rock legends and inspirations. I think if I were to see them live it would definitely have to be an outdoor venue or proper music venue because I think a sports venue (especially a smaller one built for an AHL team) just doesn't hold their massive sound well.

    Portugal the Man

by BoozySuzy on 2018-09-06Deer Lake Park - Burnaby

This band sounded completely different than on the radio and I don’t mean in a good way. It was like listening to a completely different band all together. They played a harder style than their songs on radio portray them to be. They started out with a Metallica song which was cool but they played all their songs this way-fast hard metal style. I would never pay money to see this band again. At least the venue and our company was great, so it wasn’t a waste of time.

    Portugal the man disappointing

by DelM on 2018-09-04Deer Lake Park - Burnaby

For a band that has such great albums they were not good live. No crowd interaction ,disappointing sound system and a very short set. Will continue to enjoy their albums but won't waste money on seeing them live.

    Disappointing performance

by Anonymous on 2018-09-04Deer Lake Park - Burnaby

After an interesting opening that included a mashup featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers riffs and excepts from Pink Floyd's The Wall, Portugal, the Man settled into a series of guitar and drum heavy songs that closely resembled one another. Gone was the dance friendly vibe of songs such as Number One. Instead, tunes from the Woodstock album sounded like really bad cover versions. Extremely disappointing and not worth the money.

PTM is all about giving us a show to remember and they sure did!! Great band, great venue, great times! The graphics and light show were awesome.

    BBS was good

by Rittedar on 2018-09-04Deer Lake Park - Burnaby

We found out shortly before the day of the concert that Broken Social Scene wasn’t going to play last but instead Portugal the Man was which was disappointing because we bought tickets for what we thought was the main headliner, BBS!

Awesome music! Just wish they didn’t rely on the white screen displays, would have rather seen the performers.

The band didn’t show their faces or talk to the audience. I can watch them from the comfort of my home if I wanted to feel disconnected.

    Poor sound

by Botchamania619 on 2018-02-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Fantastic and talented band but they had their sound too loud. The instruments were drowning out the vocalist and vice versa. Very disappointing. Seen them twice before and never had this issue, so I know it’s not a usual thing.

    We left early

by DisappointedDebbie5 on 2018-02-11Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I have been listening to their music to prep for the show for weeks. I liked their newest album so much. They didn’t sound anything like it at all. It was just noise. They had cool lasers that blocked anyone from the balcony’s view so we couldn’t even see them so we left early.

Can't wait to see them again.

by Teeg on 2011-10-20The Opera House - Toronto

Second time seeing P.TM and I can't wait until I get to see them again already. It's unbelievable that these guys fly under the radar and are not huge yet. They are one of the most hard working and dedicated bands I've seen in a long while of going to 10+ concerts a year. The entire set is full of energy with songs being remixed and blended together to create seamless transitions between songs. They had these crazy light orbs strung around the stage that were programmed to match with the songs. Bottom line: do yourself a favour and check them out if you ever get the chance. You will not be disappointed.
