Robert Cray at Hard Rock Casino Coquitlam, BC

by Gunther on 2015-02-26Hard Rock Casino Vancouver - Coquitlam

Good show. Good music. Did some old, some new, some not before heard (by me) stuff. A continuing problem for me, the master of the sound board is deaf. When audio levels reach painful it is time for earplugs. Robert Cray is not a talker on stage, no background to the songs or lyrics, just a great musician and good folk backing him !

Always a pleasure to watch a master with a damn fine band backing him, songs were well delivered and timing was spot on. Just wish the audience members who went down to front of stage and danced realized that might have been distracting to some of us!

    Robert Cray astounds as usual

by DSTOCK on 2015-02-25Hard Rock Casino Vancouver - Coquitlam

What can I say except awesome sound, clarity and a great show overall. Started on time and played for a full 90 minutes. Still has a powerful voice and plays a mean guitar.

    Robert Cray, amazing!

by Noteasilywowed on 2015-02-24Hard Rock Casino Vancouver - Coquitlam

Robert Cray’s abilities with a guitar are simply amazing, but then you add that voice and the real magic starts. Robert played many songs my wife and I had heard before, but also a few that have left us in search of more of his CD’s that we don’t already own. Overall the concert was fantastic. The only negative comment I could make is about some of the attendants, and certainly nothing negitive about the band. As a music lover I attend a concert to hear the music, and not to hear the people behind us take the opportunity to catch up on their day. If you want to have a conversation, go back to the bar or wherever it was you just came from. Have some respect for those around you who used their hard earned dollars to hear the band. We had no interest in hearing about your recent trip to the mall, and especially at the top of your lungs while the band was still playing.

As always he is great. He never seems to age. He is great with the audience. His guitar mastery is second to none. 90 minutes never flew by so fast. I can't wait to see him again.

    Robert Cray - A master!

by Chooch on 2015-02-24Hard Rock Casino Vancouver - Coquitlam

Wow! What else can you say when you have the opportunity to witness a master at work. With the support of three others (keyboard, bass, percussion) this quartet was tight! What Robert does with a fender and amp is incredible. No special effects, no multi-peddle boards. Simplicity at its finest. This in itself displays more clearly than anything else, why he is so damn good! Reward yourself with the experience of a lifetime. See the Robert Cray band wherever and whenever you can! Amazing!

    Thank You Mr. Cray!

by Angela801 on 2015-02-24Hard Rock Casino Vancouver - Coquitlam

Great show.......My first time to see Robert Cray and I would most certainly pay to go again. He played for 90 minutes, including a 3 song encore. I only recognized a handful of songs, but that was of no consequence, it was refreshing to hear songs that I was not familiar with. Robert Cray and band were tight, personable, accomplished, professional, serious musicians, there wasn't one thing more I could have asked for except to have heard the classic "Smoking Gun" & a personal favorite of mine "Don't be Afraid of the Dark". Maybe next time.........

    Time makes Two

by pfl4 on 2015-02-24Hard Rock Casino Vancouver - Coquitlam

I've been seeing the Robert Cray Band for about 35 years now. Since the release of their very first album in 1980. The past couple or few years I thought the band was mailing it in. But I suspect there was some discord within the group. They now have Dover Weinberg on keys. Although the band only played 3 oldies, the material they did choose was extremely strong and well performed. I thought this was the best show I've seen from them in maybe five years.

    Robert Cray and Mavis Staples

by William1234 on 2013-10-03River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

Robert Cray was outstanding. I have seen him 4 times and his singing in this performance, while always superb , hit a new high. There was a larger mix of songs from various albums than is usual which was great. As one of the worlds greatest guitar players he delivered the crisp sound we expect. Mavis Davis , at age 74, delivered an outstanding, 90 minute set.

    Mixed Feelings

by jimmytheshooter on 2013-10-01River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

Both Robert and Mavis are awesome talents. It was the way the show was put together that I had concerns with. To separate the two acts with a 20 minute break was wrong. Many people ( 25 % ) were out having a bear when Robert came on for the second part of the show. His voice is magical but the sound of the music overpowered him ..just way too loud. I would love to see Robert Cray any time and will try again in the future : )

    Surprise Visit by Colin James

by Ginger64 on 2013-10-01River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

Colin James joined Mavis Staples' band for one song, which was a delightful surprise. Robert Cray was witty and the band was great, just disappointed that he didn't play his signature hit, Smoking Gun. Sure he is probably sick of playing it, but people want to hear it! Overall ♥ the show

    Mavis and Robert Cray unforgettable

by PCMike on 2013-10-01River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

The title says it all. The show was unforgettable. Mavis is great . I would pay to see any of her musicians entertain by themselves. Robert Cray was outstanding as well.

    excellent

by codenamedexter on 2013-10-01River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

Robert Cray has not lost a beat or guitar lick during his his long career. He & his band put on a totally relaxed, professional & entertaining show and played most of his hits- doesn't seem to have aged since i saw him last at the PNE with Long John Baldrey & Powder Blues (free concert) about 16 years ago. I hope he returns again soon!

    Distance

by pfl4 on 2013-10-01River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

The Robert Cray Band seems burned out. The band set-up was more then 30 feet back from the front of the stage. I think Robert is losing touch with his touch with his fan base. He played two songs from his first 4 albums. He seemed impatient and the crowd picked up on it. I think everyone including Robert were happy when the show closed.

Robert Cray delivered the best concert yet!!!

by MMMMWWWDDDD on 2012-06-11Tulalip Resort Casino - Tulalip

I have been a fan for 30 years and he has never let me down. He played like a young man, with energy and lots of interaction with the fans. His band is top shelf. Too bad he does not perform live all the time. He would sell-out any venue wherever he went. It was great,

    Blues with soul.

by HueAudio on 2010-10-12River Rock Casino Resort - Richmond

What can I say about the show? Robert Cray is an incredible performer. He plays with depth of emotion. Something rare it seems these days. Yeah. It's blues but this isn't your every day 12 bar blues. He plays with style that takes it beyond standard blues. Every song has an identity. No recycled patterns. The chord progressions are familiar but he adds embellishments that are unique to each song. I have to say, I'm a shred head. I love ripping solos. This was a nice change. You can tell he means every note because he's singing along with it. (scatting) It also helped that the venue is just beautiful. I'm not a gambler. Not a fan of gambling and I don't recommend it. The theater sounds great. They have great engineers. Th music was loud enough to be heard but not so loud that it was unintelligible. Beautifully clean sound. A very nice venue and a top notch show.
