This play was really disappointing. It was quite boring and given the historic importance the story had, this just did not live up to it. It was not emotionally stimulating at all and I think downplayed the horrific events that took place during the holocaust. Maybe I am just being critical because the actress who played Anne Frank was so brutally annoying. Her voice shrieked everytime she spoke and although she attempted to sound like an excited young teen, she sounded like a high pitched screaming chip monk exerting her voice way too much. The other actors and actresses were quite good but a new lead is definitely needed!
While the actors tried hard, they simply weren't up to par. The lead who played Anne had a Mickey-Mouse helium-filled voice that got on our nerves from the first word, and she overacted throughout. She was not a likeable character in the least. The man who played Otto kept stumbling in his delivery, occasionally forgetting a line. The play itself is a good script, of course, staging was quite good, but the character of Anne just put us off completely!
I've read the book many years ago and seeing the play was a wonderful experience. It was well done and you could learn what it must have been like for Anne and her family to live like they did during the war. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys theatre and knows the story behind 'The Diary of Anne Frank'.
Acting was good, to many tech. problems which was very distracting.
