About

What started as the RPM Gold Leaf Awards in 1964 by RPM editor and publisher Walt Grealis and record label executive Stan Klees, soon became The JUNO Awards in 1971.  Named in tribute to Pierre Juneau, the first chairperson of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), the JUNO Awards were founded to raise the public profile and recognition of musical artists in Canada.

The JUNO Awards has evolved from an industry awards event to a weeklong festival that travels city to city across the country. It encompasses both public-facing fan events and industry/networking opportunities featuring a diverse array of Canadian artists and emerging talent. In addition to The JUNO Awards Broadcast, JUNO Week event programming includes JUNO Songwriters' Circle, JUNOfest, JUNO Fan Fare, JUNO Cup, and more.

In 2002, The JUNO Awards went on the road to take the music to the fans and expanded its scope to include a series of public and private events outside of the Awards broadcast. Each host city has embraced their opportunity to support the JUNO Awards and build an enduring legacy of music programs in their market.

    Poor in person experience

by EA on 2023-03-22Rogers Place - Edmonton

We were excited about this event but unfortunately very disappointed. The event only seemed concerned about the TV broadcast and the audience that paid to be in the seats was forgotten. It was very difficult to see from the seats with very a limited number of screens and every commercial break was down time - no entertainment at all to keep the audience engaged. It made for a pretty boring experience. We attended a number of years back in London Ontario - they put on a great show for both TV and the sitting audience - this should be a format that the Junos return to and strive to produce.

    Well organized Junos

by Colleen on 2023-03-21Rogers Place - Edmonton

We really enjoyed the show even though the only performer we knew was Nickelback. It was very well choreographed and on time. It would have been nice to have had bigger names show up for the show, but I don't think that's the fault of the Juno organizers, it's the stars who think they are too good for the Junos or maybe they just didn't want to come to Edmonton. I think Edmonton did a great job hosting.

    Experience

by Ladybug on 2023-03-20Rogers Place - Edmonton

Attending the Junos is a unique event that requires it be treated as such, especially for newbies have no idea. To build anticipation, elevate this experience, helpful tips on how to get the most of; what to expect, dress (if choose) highlight or suggest links check out festivities week of. This isn't like a concert and should not be treated as such. The show seemed shortened, didn't feel satisfaction that typically accompanies. With that being said, next year's Junos in Halifax, will be a vacay.

    Incredible!!

    by #Junofan on 2023-03-17Rogers Place - Edmonton

It would have been nice to see the other awards that were given previously, given before the show starts. Those performers could have also performed then as well. You wouldn’t need to televise it until the last 2 hours for the major awards. We found that it was all too rushed with the doors only opening an hour before. It was also hard having it on a week day, could you plan it next year on a Sunday (when more people don’t work?) I know there were things all weekend but it would have been nice to have more on the day of. The show itself was spectacular!! Well run, great stage and incredible performances! We would DEFINITELY go again!

    It was ok

by Lynn on 2023-03-17Rogers Place - Edmonton

Some performances were good. Sound was not great. Seemed like Avril Lavigne didn't want to be there.

    JUNOS 2023 was excellent

by Kathryn on 2023-03-16Rogers Place - Edmonton

The performances and award ceremonies were well timed and well done! Watching the acts queue up on different stages was interesting! Too bad The Weekend didn’t bother to come to receive his awards. Guess he’s too cool for Canada now! Host Simu was incredibly fun and did his bit to perfection. Avril was a cool as a cucumber dealing with the protester! The music was the best part, of course, but Conner McDavid giving the Canadian Music Award to Nickelback was also fabulous!

    Fun, but....

by MOBGirl on 2023-03-16Rogers Place - Edmonton

It was fun to experience the Junos, but it was very hard to see from our seats. The need to have bigger screens so the people in the higher wheelchair accessible seats can see!
