What started as the RPM Gold Leaf Awards in 1964 by RPM editor and publisher Walt Grealis and record label executive Stan Klees, soon became The JUNO Awards in 1971. Named in tribute to Pierre Juneau, the first chairperson of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), the JUNO Awards were founded to raise the public profile and recognition of musical artists in Canada.
The JUNO Awards has evolved from an industry awards event to a weeklong festival that travels city to city across the country. It encompasses both public-facing fan events and industry/networking opportunities featuring a diverse array of Canadian artists and emerging talent. In addition to The JUNO Awards Broadcast, JUNO Week event programming includes JUNO Songwriters' Circle, JUNOfest, JUNO Fan Fare, JUNO Cup, and more.
In 2002, The JUNO Awards went on the road to take the music to the fans and expanded its scope to include a series of public and private events outside of the Awards broadcast. Each host city has embraced their opportunity to support the JUNO Awards and build an enduring legacy of music programs in their market.
Everyone who preformed was amazing, so glad I got tickets. Great Canadian talent.
The event itself was okay. Expected more than just four awards. Trying to find an accessible seat was a nightmare. Doors were supposed to open at 3:30 pm but was not open until 4pm
Bought tickets to the JUNOS thinking that I should since they only come to Calgary every few years. Ticketmaster should provide reviews for the seats since I was unaware I would be so high up. They only used about half of the floor space - meaning less tickets sold - and half of the award winners were not present to accept their awards (*cough*Justin Bieber *cough*).
Had a great time! Was impressed how efficient the organizers were! The show was 2 hours almost to the minute. All the presenters and performers were awesome. I can’t wait for Junos to come back to Alberta – Edmonton *hint!
We had a great time at the Junos. Calgary did an amazing job hosting. Everything was on time and staff was great at make sure entrances weren't blocked. Don't know why there was no walking beer guy as lines were a little long. Really loved the mock red carpet and the Juno sign were staff were taking pictures. Amazing performances.
Geared for a TV audience more than a live audience. Burton Cummings' standing ovation was well deserved. Bieber's boo for his pathetic attempt at thanking fans was also well deserved. All performers were good.
Great event. Seats were ok except the bright white spot light that kept shinig in our eyes. Ended up earing sun glasss
I thought it was FANTASTIC!!! Well done Calgary!!!
Excellent entertainment and event was surprisingly on schedule.
Awesome presenters and performers! So great there were a variety of genres of performers!
Really enjoyed going to the Juno's in Calgary. Was a neat experience to see a live show. Loved all the performances. Would highly recommend attending in the future!
What an amazing show! We loved every minute of it and would go again in a heart beat!
I'm 16 and loved this show. It was entertaining, it had Shawn Mendes and some really great performers. I had fun from the moment I arrived till the moment I left. I would recommend that anyone that can go to the show in Ottawa next year, goes. It's worth every penny. Stephanie D
Jann and Jon did a wonderful job hosting the Juno's! The atmosphere was electric and the shows were entertaining. The time just flew by!
Was a awsome show excellent view.Had a good time.the host was good.cant wait till next year to go again
I received tickets as a gift from my girlfriend and didn't know what to expect. The cool part about the junoz is that you really feel like you are behind the scenes at TV show. You get to see what really happens during commercial breaks. The performances were really awesome. It really made me feel like I was part of a Canadian history and also made me realize how much talent we have here at home. As a Canadian I think it is something everyone should experience live. It was so much fun. I am trying to get to Hamilton to be part of it again. The end.
The show was so much fun! So many amazing artists, can't wait for 2015!
This show was so much fun! I had never been to a live tv broadcast before, and it was a great experience for me and my friends. It's cool to see so many Canadian musicians (and astronauts and curlers!) in the same room.
Myself as well as my brother and his girlfriend went to the Junos this year at the ACC. We bought the tickets for 80 dollars a piece and ended up sitting four rows from the VERY top. Although you kind of felt disconnected from the whole event and the celebrities looked like ants, it was still amazing! Seeing it all go down in front of me, rather than on a tv screen at home is awesome! I can now say that I've been apart of Canadian Music History. I would suggest that if you are going to purchase tickets for the Junos, pay a little bit more to get closer to the action because the nose bleeds really weren't doing much. TIP: every year they accept volunteer 'seat fillers' and basically you show up with a bunch of documents (resume and some others... not sure what) and you get in for free and you have to fill people's seats when they leave for the washroom or for any other reason. So if you're cheap and want to take the risk of showing up and not getting accepted as a volunteer, try it!
I took my 3 daughters and oh yah my wife and we had a great time. Only one problem, my daughters would have loved to be on the red carpet. We came to Toronto early, I took them shopping and then out for supper. They said the best time of the day was of course seeing the stars getting out of the Escalades- they would have loved being closer. The whole nights ceremonies were a blast.
