We flew to Connecticut from Toronto to see the July 8 YES/Styx show at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. This was to be my 47th YES show and my second Styx. The venue was terrific - nice hotel, great sound in the Theatre, spacious, comfortable seats. I purchased the Meet and Greet tickets for YES and was extremely disappointed that they chose to do their meet and greet DURING Styx's set. This was rude not only to the fans but to their colleagues in Styx. As a result, I never did get to meet YES. I bailed on the long wait and took my seat to listen to Styx. As for the music ... YES played well - particularly Howe, Squire, White. Downes appears to be still learning much of the music and David - well, he's just a terrible singer. Still, I enjoyed the virtuosity of Howe on songs like Yours Is No Disgrace and Starship Trooper. As for Styx, I was SO impressed with how hard they worked. While YES displays a fair degree of arrogance, Styx treated this audience with great respect and gave them a hell of a show - recognizing that the tickets don't come cheap and we, the audience, have high expectations. At the end of the day I was happier with Styx's performance overall and thank them for giving it their all.
