    Bachman/Turner-Geezer Rock ROCKS!

by MrBasics on 2011-05-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

It's official...I'm a geezer! I remembered just about every word from every song from 40+ years ago. Thing is my hair is not as white as Randy Bachman's-just missing like Fred Turner's! The 70's wall of sound was present. (I remember George Harrison writing in the liner notes of the All Things Must Pass re-issue in 2000-'what were we thinking of?') Harrison's words "rang true" on Sunday as often the sound of instruments blasted out the lyrics. Still, it was a great time. Outside of the NY Mets misuse of 'Takin' Care of Business' from the 2008 baseball season, the whole show was a proverbial run down memory lane! Turner kind of yells the lyrics at you. Bachman plays guitar like no one else. The band with them is tight as tight can be. They had the crowd on their feet for the final piece and the encore. A good time was had by all. Try them out, who knows how much longer these 68 yr. olds will be able to do this kind of show?

    Prairie Pleasures

by Thirdrowcenter on 2011-05-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

What a treat to be able to sit back in the NAC and watch a wonderful new band from the prairies and then settle back to be blown away by one of the all time best from the wind swept middle of our country or any other part of North America for that matter. The show started with Sheepdogs, a great band coming out of Toon Town (Saskatoon) catchy riffs, good harmonies and solid playing showed us all what these guys are capable of. Only complaint was that I thought the sound level low and some of the Dogs power was lost. Short break and out comes Bachman Turner with a great animated intro and then a solid show of great music. Old and new seamlessly woven together. Turner is still belting out the vocals with a strong voice.Watching and listening to Randy Bachman makes you realize what a treat this night was. He is not looking for the spotlight or flash but man can he play!! Solid band working around them with a second bass guitarist on many songs playing an 8 string bass guitar!! The Bachman Turner road show thundered through the NAC this night and left with everyone on their feet cheering.

I was back in the 70's.

by BTOGuy on 2011-05-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Randy Bachman and Fred Turner have never sounded better. They hit the stage hard, and didn't look back. Although both Randy and CF are more light-weight in stature than they were at height of their popularity (age does mean you must take care of yourself), they have not lost their energy, their drive to perform, and their talent. Although I have seen Randy Bachman several times in recent years, both with and without Burton Cummings, there was something special this time. I think it was the vocals from Fred Turner. There is no mistaking that voice. Excellent! Well Done.

    BT was AWEsome!

by Aquamarina on 2011-05-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Let's face it...I was there to relive my misspent youth...as it seemed were most of the other audience members! BT did NOT let us down. Tight playing...great visuals and lighting. These artists have multigenerational appeal. Proof? My 15.5 year old daughter was blown away too! Looked like the PM and Laureen were gettin' their rock on too!

    Bachman-Turner at NAC

by mcmblues on 2011-05-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

For the most part the guitars drowned out the vocals. But for two guys aty 68, what the hell!!! They played well and sang their hearts out!!!

    Fabulous trip back in time

by ottawafan2011 on 2011-05-10National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Great evening. Bachman and Turner came ready to play. The lightshow was above average, videos were engaging, the music was loud but full. B&T played all their hits, they were all good, but the encore was even better. Definitely come to see them, they can still play. Not a lot of audience interaction, but Randy did talk to us a couple of times and got our hands clapping. Worth going.

Thundering guitars, rolling drums, unbounded energy and enthusiasm. All the main food groups of rock. Wow!
