AC/DC : Angus Young is still an incredible showman
by masterkotz on 2009-08-09Olympic Stadium - Stade Olympique - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5I bought tickets to the AC/DC show because i grew up listening to their classics, like T.N.T., Hell's Bells, You Shook Me All Night Long, Back In Black.
Sometimes, when artists reach their 60s, you just tell yourself : "Maybe i should go, there might not be many chances to see them live". So i bought tickets, at ground level.
The Olympic Stadium, as everyone in Montreal knows, is a place where there is a lot of reverb, the sound is never really good, and it often depends where you sit. In front of the scene, we could notice at some point, but it wasn't that bad. Some of my friends in the regular seats told me the sound was really bad. That's the Big O, unfortunately that's the only stadium with over 50000 seats in Montreal..
So, what did I see. Well, a 60 feet wide scene with a 5 huge screens, a big train, a huge inflatable doll (Rosie), cannons shooting at he crowd, confettis flying over the crowd, and a big 200 feet walkdown in the middle.
I also saw three AC/DC members who just punched in to work, did their job, and didn't move at all during the show: Cliff Williams (bass), Malcolm Young (rythm guitar) and Phil Rudd (drum). Rudd was so busy that he was smoking a cigarette during most of the show.
Brian Johnson is a pretty good showman, even though is voice is well, not improving, but he did really good to entertain the crowd.
But even after 30 years, AC/DC is all about one man : Angus Young.
The guy has a stage presence that any rocker would like to have. And he has tons of energy. We saw all the classic Angus moves. Whatever Angus does, the crowd goes crazy.
All in all, a great night. Lots of classic, plus 4 songs from their latest album (Rock N' Roll Train to start the night, then Big Jack, Black Ice and War Machine later).
If AC/DC comes to our town. get tickets.
