"Since its 2009 formation, the small-town quintet known as Alabama Shakes has delivered a swampy blues rock that has taken the mainstream Southern rock genre by storm. The Athens, AL, outfit, comprised of frontwoman/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, keyboardist Ben Tanner and drummer Steve Johnson, has released one album, 2012's "Boys & Girls." The ATO Records debut moved all the way to No. 8 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than half a million copies to date. A sophomore set which the band spent the fall of 2013 working on may surface sometime in 2014.
Howard's powerful vocals have drawn comparisons to Janis Joplin, while the driving soul of the band's music has earned them famous fans like Jack White and Drive-By Truckers' singer Patterson Hood. While the humble group has played support sets on tour with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Mumford and Sons, ticket sales for their coast-to-coast headlining concerts has been high. Not to mention festival appearances at Bonnaroo Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival and Lollapaloozas in Brazil and Chile."

Wasn't a fan of the opener, father john misty, but the alabama shakes more than made up for that. Can't wait to see them again september 22nd in lewiston,ny.
After hearing the first single "Hold On" when it first hit radio, I was intrigued by the fresh sound of the band. After watching their performance on Saturday Night Live I was sold. I mean to look at Brittany on stage you would never connect her to playing guitar and singing like she does. She is the anti-thesis of what a rock star is supposed to look like. But that is exactly what you get on-stage, one of the most honest straightforward, talented performances I have seen in my 35 years of concert going. The venue is first rate, sound was excellent. The only thing that bothered me was the idiots who were yapping all through some of the quieter songs, wrecking the intimacy that the band was portraying.
I go to at least 15 shows a year. The Alabama Shakes put on one of the best shows I have seen in years. Raw talent, full of soul and some real original rock n roll. Echo Beach was a perfect setting. The only thing that could have improved the night is a more diverse beer menu. I will not miss this band in the future. Awesome
The Alabama Shakes concert was amazing. I would definitely go to their next concert. Her rhythm is so unique and really is a fresh of breath air from main stream. This sista definitely got real soul.
Was excellent venue and the BAND was amazing.... :)
Amazing band. Live they were phenomenal! It seemed that every song was a hit, and her voice gave me goosebumps the whole performance. Echo beach is an excellent venue, can't wait to go back again this summer. Nice to have a beer sitting in the sand watching the openers.
Did not disappoint! Great energy and great show. Brittany Howard sounded amazing and didn't hold back. Would see them again and again.
I loved the venue the food trucks and the band!!!! Felt like I was at an outdoor festival
I definitely would love to see Alabama Shakes again. Brittany Howard's voice is so powerful and filled with soul. Their sound of gospel meets blues meets rock n roll had us on our feet the whole time. We didn't want the night to end but when it unfortunately did, we left feeling happy and fulfilled.
Great venue, and Alabama Shakes were amazing! She has an absolutely unbelieveable voice. Such amazing soul. Johnny Fritz were great too. So funny!!
They were even better than i thought they would be. That Brittany has a hell of a voice! Her passion resonates off her. Such a great show !
Alabama shakes rocked the night with soul, blues, and roll & roll all night. This was my first time at echo beach and was pleasantly surprised, will return to see both for sure. Opening bands were the best I've seen.
Without knowing much about the band, I was certainly convinced that, if they stick to what they do, and how they do it, Alabama Shakes, will secure a firm footing in a unique, little corner of our musical planet. For a young band, playing blues/rock/soul it is refreshing to see that they actually know when enough, is enough, thereby, leaving the crowd wanting more. Great job!
Legitimately one of the greatest live performances I have ever seen. The lead singer is easily in the top five singers in popular music right now. She a level and quality of soul that music hasn't seen for decades. Incredible.
Alabama Shakes put on a great live show, amazing energy and sweet tune. Great mix of sound and beat.
Brittany Howard has an amazing voice! It is impressive on the album but a thousand times better live. The band is really solid and their energy is very infectious.
Alabama Shakes exceeded all expectations I had - the energy was great, Brittany is an AMAZING vocalist, and I loved the sneak preview of the new album! Highly Recommended!
This band is absolutely incredible live...the passion, energy, and amazing fusion of rock/blue/soul made for an incredible evening. Shakes really go the crowed going.
It has been many years, maybe even a decade, since a new band has had this much SOUL. The packed house at Lee's Palace in Toronto was completely enamoured by Alabama Shakes and from the first song, the band had us in the palm of their hand, lived up to the hype and the crowd showed them the love. This is unusual in a city where audience members usually cross their arms in a prove it to me sorta too-cool-for-school stance. There was none of this on Tuesday night. Alabama Shakes will melt your heart. Great musicianship. PASSIONATE PERFORMANCE! Catch 'em if you can!
