About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

    Amazing first Broadway experience!

by KCO05 on 2017-11-07New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

At first, I was concerned we had the Aladdin understudy (Jacob Dickey) but he was incredible. Trust me, you'll want to listen to his beautiful voice all day long. Genie (Major Attaway) was the real star of the show and the crowd favourite. He channelled Robin Williams' spirit. Iago (Don Darryl Rivera) will make you laugh. Jasmine (Courtney Reed) nearly ruined the evening with her whiny, unpleasant voice, but luckily, everything else made up for her. The magic carpet ride scene truly was magical and all the sets were beautiful and intricate with well-rehearsed transitions. Some impressive special effects throughout. The updated humour and new songs were enjoyable, especially Genie's mashup if you're a Disney fan! Fun fact: Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) is the original voice actor from the Disney movie. All in all, a spectacular show. I highly recommend!

I went to see Aladdin in NYC, it was absolutely amazing. The set design, costumes and songs were very well-done. The highlight of this production was the actor who played Genie (MAJOR ATTAWAY). Highly recommend this show and the the theatre was nice (NEW AMSTERDAM THEATRE). PS. I came all the way from Toronto, Canada!

worth seeing but not for main two characters

by jstagirl on 2017-10-25New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Enjoyed this play, but Jasmine and Aladdin lacked something big. No chemistry, voices weren’t fantastic and dancing was not up to par. Secondary characters: Jaguar, Iago, the Sultan were great...And the Genie stole the show! He was brilliant! Genie saves the day!!!

    Must see production!!

by frenchiefries on 2016-08-28New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Aladdin has been one of the best musicals I've seen in awhile! Wonderful costumes with great attention to details on the sets. Great acting and singing. Aladdin's and Genie's voice was excellent. The scene on the magic carpet was spectacular! A little humour thrown in there was a nice touch... Nothing too degrading. I brought two kids, an 12 and 14 year old, they enjoyed it for their first Broadway show. Theatre was so beautiful inside! Do not miss out!

    Fantastic show for all ages!

by GirlL on 2016-07-25New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

I was hesitant to spend the money on a Disney Broadway show, in particular Aladdin as it is not one of my most favorite Disney films but I was outvoted by our group of 9 and I am so glad that I was. It was a spectacular show that was well worth its value. It is not a show just for kids - it is great for adults too! The actors, in particular the Genie, were fabulous and the stage setting and costumes were top notch. In addition, the New Amsterdam Theatre is amazing and its staff were superb. I highly recommend this show.

    Disney does it again!

by GMS62 on 2015-10-04New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Saw this show in Toronto over a year ago. It was totally reworked for Broadway with much of the same cast and it is even better than the Toronto production. Magical and entertaining as Disney does so well. Must see musical theater-especially if you have children!
