Alicia can truly sing - awesome LIVE performer

by LA84 on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Alicia was amazing! She is truly talented and the concert definitely showcased that fact. There was never a time when the show seemed slow or boring since Alicia moved around the stage either dancing or playing different instruments. The concert was well worth it! Alicia came on at approx 9.15pm and the show ended at 11pm. And she made sure that her show was well worth it by performing a lot of her songs back to back without much rest. Even her backup singers were very talented! My only concern was that the venue was very big and it's harder to get an intimate feeling with the artist; therefore it was hard to hear what she was saying at times.

Starting with the good. Alicia Keys was once again wonderful. Her soulful voice sounded great at the ACC. However, it does bother me that she seems intent on being a pop princess like all the others. She is so talented that it's a shame to see her pander to the masses. The cage at the beginning was ridiculous and the dancers simply unwarranted. Her piano and her songs are all that is needed to make an Alicia Keys show worthwhile. P.S. I had never heard of Robin Thicke prior to the show and after hearing him I wish I never had. He was laughable!

    Incredibly talented

by ILUVPURSES on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

I first saw Alicia 5 years ago at Casino Rama just outside Toronto when i was 8 months pregnant. She was even more amazing than i remember back than. The concert last night was great, but not long enough. I'm a frequent concert goer and that was the shortest i have been to. Regardless, i'll see her again when she comes back.

Good aover all. Alicia just needs to perform more old material.

I felt the music was louder than Alicia's singing and the seats that we paid $95/each were too far from the stage. We couldn't even see her clearly on the screens so needless to say, we didn't enjoy the concert that much.

    Amazing Alicia

by trucanadian on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

I really enjoyed Alicia Keys. She is a talented artist that is tasteful in her concerts and still uses her craft. I appreciate the fact that she still highlights her gift of piano playing. I was kind of dissapointed in the sound quality of Melanie Fiona and Robin Thicke. I was also upset that Melanie dropped the Canadian flag on the stage. As a Canadian I found it disrespectful to our country treating our flag like that. You would never find an American dropping the flag on the stage like an old rag.

    Overall a very good night

by Shana on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

To me, Alicia Keyes is a very talented musician with great vocal range and she demonstrated that last night. She looked beautiful and her voice got better and better and she show went on. She's not yet quite the real entertainer, so it fell a little short on the side of choreography. Looks like she's trying (hard) to be more like a Beyonce but I'm not sure that's her thing. She doesn't need to do that because she's got her craft and her musical performance is stellar, so she can keep it intimate and stick to what she does best (play the piano and sing). The fast up-beat numbers were a nice change and got us up on our feet! Liked the little quotes from Ghandi, Mandela and others, but the earlier part of the show with the overhead titles and Comunist references were distracting and often unrelated to the lyrics. Fun to watch the dancers! Alicia made efforts to connect with the TO audience and succeed especially in the "second" part of the show. Overall had a great time and would go see her gain!

    Alicia Keys Toronto

by Indycoull on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Alicia was amazing - I would recommend only because of Alicia. However, she only performed from 9:15 to 10:45 - kinda short changed her fans. Plus there were 2 opening acts - they were not thta great - away to loud - singers had to scream to get over instrumental volume - BRUTAL !! Our idea with the ticket purchase was to enjoy Toronto and Alicia Keys - started at 7:30 - 9:15 Alicia appeared - painful. I think I will stick to small venues from here in - no opening acts - ticket says 7:30 and the main performer starts at 7:30 - no opening act(s). ACC needs to change the way the big concerts go.

Alicia Keys - What a talented, beautiful woman!

by castleking on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

The concert was great. She is such a wonderful talent. I wish the bass could have been toned down so that her voice could have stood out stronger. Overwhelmingly loud at times.

    Alicia Keys

by Pammie on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Last year at this same venue Alicia was absolutely stellar and this year she fell extremely short of our expectations. This girl should be sitting at the piano cranking out soulful songs not parading around in stilletos on stage dancing and singing. If we wanted that we'd go see Beyonce. We think the concert promoters have commercialized and mechanicalized young spirited talent. While Alicia's voice is still phenomenal but last night at times it appeared to be strained. Wasn't sure if she was actually feeling well enough to perform. We loved her use of various instruments. Undeniably a talented musician. We were seated at level 310. The visual on the opening, the part where she is moved onto the stage in the cage, was completely restricted. The jumbo screens alleviated that issue to some extent but we felt like we weren't part of the concert audience. Sight lines should maybe be reconsidered. For the first two warm up bands and the beginning of Alicia's concert the bass sound in our section was distorted badly. And what is with all the war, political and gas mask pictures. It's a concert right not a demonstration???? We hope she tells her promoters to take a hike and returns to her roots which is keys and singing. I resented being emailed and phoned that camera's were not allowed at the concert. I had legitimate concerns that my cell phone might have been confiscated because of its camera capabilities. This should be a non issue.

    Alicia Keyes was superb

by GeCee on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Alicia was confident, poised and very powerful. Great set and stage. Biggest downfall was the sound. Terrible bass and distracted from her beautiful voice. Too bad it had such an impact to all her fans in the 300 level.

    Alicia Keys Concert in Toronto

by Anonymous on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Overall I really enjoyed this concert. Robin Thick opened the concert for Alicia and he was really good, not to mention hot. When Alicia came on, her and her backup dancers really pumped up the crowd. The concert song choices and change of pace was really fantastic. She played popular songs from all of her albums and people were inspired to get up and dance, whenever they felt inspired. She looked so good and really rocked that sexy curvy body she has going on. It was the first time I have been to one of her concerts, and it has now inspired me to go out and buy the albums of hers that I don't have. Finally her backup singers were also phenomenal. My only complaint is that the seat that I had although it was in the 20th row, it was off to the side of the stage and they only had 1 big screen on in the Air Canada Centre. Usually they have more of them turned on which really would have made it easier to see everything, however we got to see when they were coming onto the stage as our seats were off to the side. Otherwise I loved the concert and would go again.

    Alicia Key is fabulous!!!

by ShyGrrl on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Alicia Keys is absolutely fabulous!!! Her performance was great, as it usually is!! Although it was a bit disappointing when she came out 30 mins late (9:30) and then ended the show at 10:45, with a few breaks in between, not to mention... she didn't sing all of the songs from the newer Elements of Freedom album.

See A.Keys at least once in your lifetime

by Pitbull3 on 2010-03-11Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Great performance overall, stage was an efficient/effective set up, back up singers were incredible and the band was awesome. I would have liked to hear her sing her songs full through or at least more than half of them. Her vocals are still in great shape and her stage presence was on point. The crowd was SO responsive to her, it was unbelieveable. Only detraction would be a few surprises from other fans seated around me: 2 cigarettes and a joint being smoked inside the venue. That I did not expect at this type of concert.
