  • Alvin Ailey DTC was Unforgettable!!!

by Hairbyles on 2016-03-08Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I was in awe with the performance. It was spent as a girls night out and we cannot stop talking about the show. I feel so blessed to have been able to experience the passion the dancers expressed through each segment, the love they have for their art and the essence of being apart of it all! Absolutely a show I will never forget.

  • Beautiful Performances

Ths was my third Ailey Performance and it was incredible. The dancers were exquisite and the selections were moving. It made me wish the two hours performance could have been longer.

  • Amazing Show!

The show itself and the dancers were amazing. The mix of afro dance, house, jazz, ballet was pure magic. Very well choreographed. I only wished the show was lasted longer and that we didn't have that many pauses.

Only one (Exodus) out if four parts was enjoyable. Others were very mediocre.

One of the best dance troops I have ever witnessed. Truly outstanding lighting, dancers and overall show.

Great show. Good balance between solo and group acts. Most of the music enjoyable. Seats were terrible

In total there was 40 min of intermission.....no stage sets to change.....why the waste of time. The last dance set was a latin # nothing original.........another set called I believe called lover only one dancee for 3 songs boring, where was a duet if the number was called lovers......lack of creativity ......not the dance company I know......will not see them again

The choreography was uninventive; the dancing seemed of modest quality. This isn't the legendary Alvin Ailey Dance Company of the past...

  • Choreography was disappointing

by GingerMillar on 2016-03-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The Alvin Ailey dancers are incredible. We were in awe of their talent. However, the choreographers of this show let the dancers and audience down. Of the 7 numbers, only 3 showed the true talent of the dancers. Of those 3 numbers, only 1 blew us away. I left The Sony Centre feeling very let down and disappointed.

  • Over Rated Garbage

by tbready on 2016-03-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

We went to the show expecting tremendous lyrical dance such as their You Tube videos. What we got was a very pretentious slow moving collection of rehearsal dances. The dancers spent more time bowing and taking intermissions than they did performing. Want a 15 min intermission after 1 group number and 3 pathetic solo numbers by 1 male dancer, you got it, what??? Such an uneven unprofessional presentation with 3 intermission breaks. I want my money back!

I really enjoyed the show and so did my date. The dancers were great and so was the lighting.

  • Lacked something

by CDAC on 2016-03-07Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The performers themselves were spectacular but I felt the costumes lacked vibrant colours and softness which would have enhanced the show. At one point, one dancer performed three songs in a row and it became tedious and he appeared exhausted by the middle of the third song. I am happy that I did not buy the more expensive seats.

Great dancers I have seen perform from this company, but what they brought to Toronto wasn't what I was anxiously expecting. I believe they run out of dancers since one of them performed 3 consecutive songs... hum?!
