About

ANDRA DAY IN CONCERT:

In the wake of her stellar 2015 album debut and two GRAMMY nominations, Andra Day has critics bowing down -- and she's more than worthy of the praise. Few soul and R&B singers have arrived on the scene in recent memory with as much promise, personality, and effortless style as Day, whose incredible voice and '60s pinup girl look have made her a fast favorite with fans.  In concert Day reaches deep to deliver profoundly emotional performances, and her velvety voice never falters as she sings to the rafters on empowering anthems like "Rise Up" and throwback jams like "Forever Mine". With a spring headlining tour and a summer stint opening for Leon Bridges going down in 2016, Day has ticket buyers lining up to see her strut her stuff in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington-born Andra Day, aka Cassandra Monique "Andra" Batie, studied voice at a performing arts high school in San Diego. She spent the years after graduation gigging around Southern California and singing in videos aired on CBSnew.com and Vans.com, but she didn't garner serious attention until 2012 when her cover of Jessie J's "Mamma Knows Best" went viral on YouTube. Warner Bros. Records quickly signed her, and soon after she began working on her debut album with coveted producers Adrian Gurvitz and Raphael Saadiq. Day began promoting the album in early 2015, and Spike Lee was so impressed with her performance at that year's Sundance Film Festival that he signed on to direct the video for her debut single "Forever Mine". The track thoroughly impressed critics, earning heaps of praise from NPR and landing Day on Rolling Stone's July 2015 list of "10 New Artists You Need to Know". A few months later her long-awaited debut album Cheers to the Fall finally dropped, cracking the Top 10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and eventually earning Day 2 GRAMMY nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance ("Rise Up").

The concert was fantastic. The music was inspiring. When she performs, she leaves everything on the stage.

Great show marred by poor sound!

No doubt Andra Day has got the chops. She sings with a lot of heart. Her style is very similar to Amy Winehouse. Unfortunately her show was ruined by bad sound. We had seats in the first row of the first balcony, left side ... a great view, but we could barely make out the words to any of her songs. I am a musician so I know something about sound. The drums (especially the kick and the snare) were way too loud, the bass was very boomy, and we could barely hear the guitarist. I wish we could have seen the show from different seats... I hope it would have made a difference. The sound for the opening act was much better.
