About

Bursting onto the scene with the playful party single "Barbie Girl," Aqua catapulted to superstardom in 1997. In 2011, The Danish-Norwegian foursome returned to the studio to record Megalomania, their first new album in over ten years. After pursuing different avenues in the entertainment industry, band frontwoman Lene was discovered while working as a television host by René Dif, a Norwegian DJ with a ton of industry experience. Recognizing her energy and talent for what it was, he immediately recruited her for the band he'd just recently formed with two friends. It was 1994, and Aqua was now complete. A mere two years later, they were signed to Universal Music Denmark and released their first single, "Roses are Red."

"Aqua Diary," a 1998 documentary, captured the spirit of the band's live act. Culled from concert footage shot during their Aquarium tour, the documentary offers fans a glimpse of the energy Aqua is capable of onstage. During one part of the film, Lene teases ticket holders while strutting across the stage, striking a riot girl appearance amidst the strobes and smoke of a hip, club atmosphere. Megalomania came as a surprise to fans, who were expecting a throwback to the band's bubblegum days. What they got instead were tunes like "Kill Myself" and "Playmate to Jesus," songs with unexpected thematic twists. The band's greatest hits album is due for release in 2014.

Of course, the band will always be known for their mega smash, "Barbie Girl." The fun, infectious beat set the song a cut above the average novelty single. Today, Aqua continues to draw a new generation of fans who know fun when they hear it.

    UNFORGETTABLE evening!

by SeatSnob on 2018-09-11RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

Much Music Video Dance Party + Whigfield + Prozzak + Aqua makes for an unforgettable sing-along & a dance party that takes you back to the 90's and early 2000's. Seeing Aqua was on my bucket list and they definitely delivered. Prozzak put on an amazing show combined with a great AV experience that kept you locked in. The band Aqua hasn't aged a bit and sang all their knockout hits all night long. My one complaint is that they didn't do anything from Megalomanic - but it was technically only released in Denmark so I may have been the only one who knew the songs.

Fun event, Auga could have been on stage longer.

by tyson145 on 2018-09-11RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

Overall this was a really fun event. throwback to the 90's/early 2000's no question! Ticket price was really good. Only downside I would say is that it would have been nice to see Aqua on stage a bit longer. They did play all the hits I remember, but it just seemed to be over in a flash. But otherwise it was a great time and I would for sure do it again!

    Incredible Show

by mephanie on 2018-09-11RBC Echo Beach - Toronto

What a throwback! Wow. Second time going to this venue (Echo Beach) and I absolutely love it. There really isn't a terrible spot to be to enjoy a concert here. You can either be up front and in the jam with everyone else, or you can hang back, sit on the grass, go for a little walk, check out the vendors, eat some food, etc. It's a great place to be for a show. I've attended about 30 concerts or so, and this is hands down my favorite venue. Sound was great, we lucked out with excellent weather. All bands were fantastic. Prozzak had a video show going on to compliment their music. Aqua was energetic, engaging, it was an experience. And their live version of Candy Man is absolutely incredible. Loved every second of this event, including the Much Video Dance party going on in between sets as they re-set the stage. Not a dull moment.
