Arizona Cardinals Team History

Founded in 1898 in Chicago as the Morgan Athletic Club, the Arizona Cardinals is the oldest professional football club in the NFL. The team joined the NFL as a charter team in 1920 and became the Chicago Cardinals in 1922. Some of the most iconic players in NFL history have worn the Cardinals uniform, including Pro Football Hall of Famers safety Larry Wilson, defensive back Dick "Night Train" Lane, cornerback Roger Wehrli, tackle Dan Dierdorf, cornerback Aeneas Williams, and quarterback Kurt Warner. State Farm Stadium has also given Arizona one of the NFL's most distinct home field advantages. Since beginning play at the venue in 2006, the Cardinals have earned three division titles, two NFC Championship Game appearances and their first-ever Super Bowl appearance.

In 2014, the Cardinals finished the season 11-5, marking the most regular-season wins for the franchise since 1975. The following year, they set another record for number of wins in a season since moving to Arizona, winning 13 games. That same year, the team clinched their first NFC West title since 2009.

    Warmer than Qwest

by ACanadianSeattleFanInPHX on 2012-01-03University of Phoenix Stadium - Glendale

Having gone to see Seattle at Qwest Field (and barely avoided hypothermia) we decided to go see the Seahawks at the UofP Stadium in sunny AZ. While it didn't have the pro-Seattle energy that we loved at Qwest, the seats were great. Unfortunately the facility owners didn't crack open the roof despite a sunny, mild day. The venue was easy to get around compared to others but less washroom space than others (such as the Dolphins' home base). Food was indifferent stadium fare with little character, but the nearby restaurant/entertainment complex is a great post-game destination.

by leegee on 2011-12-20University of Phoenix Stadium - Glendale

For first time seeing an NFL game, what an experience...not exactly the two best NFL teams, but it was really exciting to see a live NFL game from a Canadian viewpoint.

    Cardinals beat Broncos

by 49erRichard on 2011-02-15University of Phoenix Stadium - Glendale

Parking for out-of-towners was far from stadium. Nonetheless, parking allowed for tailgating. Inside of stadium was nice and very clean but there is a lot of wasted space. On gameday, it was in the mid-80s outside however, the retractable roof remained closed which was a shame. Plus, the A/C was on inside and it was actually chilly. Premium beer concession stands were availble at a reasonable price and a good variety of food was available also. The beer nuts were especially good as snacks.

    Saints @ Cardinals

by Pooga on 2010-10-17UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX STADIUM - Glendale

Three of the strangest touchdowns I have ever seen a team score. The Cards had two unusual defensive touchdowns, and a really strange offensive one. Parking for the event was a breeze, and crowd control was excellent. Only downer was exiting the parking lot.

    Memorable experience!!

by KRWaite on 2009-10-13UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX STADIUM - Glendale

As we live in Canada, this was our first live NFL game to watch. It was exhilarating and I hope to see another game. I bought the tickets for my husband not expecting to be into it but it was such a blast. The fans were so friendly and the stadium was beautiful. My seats were between a few players wives and they were so nice. It really increased my love for Phoenix. My first of many visits to this city and an NFL game. Thank you Arizona for giving me an unforgettable trip.

the game that had it all

by KRWaite on 2009-10-12UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX STADIUM - Glendale

this game had everything, a 21 point lead followed by a rally to tie, followed by a go-ahead interception and culminated by a last second goal-line game saving stance...could not have invested my money on anything better. Great stadium. Great first time live NFL experience. Thanks NFL. Unforgettable.Even got to sit with some of the players family members.
