    Somewhat Disappointed

by JS on 2019-12-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The NAC Orchestra and the Choir were absolutely outstanding! However, we were hoping for more traditional/classic/popular Christmas songs that would appeal to young and old. Don't get me wrong, there were a few classics, but many of the songs were not familiar to me.

    Great show

by Alainlabrador on 2019-10-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This show was very good and the NAC orchestra is second to none. But those concerts starting at 7:00 are way to early! To the point that I will skip some excellent shows because they start to early.....! I therefore give one star less, not because of the show itself, but because of the time its starts....Sadly!

    Surreal

by Bertrand on 2019-10-22National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The orchestra was so good, it felt like you were listening to the original recording of the John Willams themes. The conductor was giving interesting information about each piece, and was very entertaining. I also liked the girl that addressed the audience in french and english.

My family and I enjoyed the NAC Orchestra Pops series performance on Friday, Oct 17/19. We enjoyed every piece they performed of John Williams music. The conductor was funny and interactive. The orchestra was amazing as usual. Very happy we went!

    The Music of John Williams

by Jan on 2019-10-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Ottawa has been blessed with an extraordinarily talented group of creators who bring music to life. You can see the song in your head while feeling the music run through your soul. Although I do NOT like loud music, both my daughter (25) and I (60) thought that it would be a little louder than it was. I've been to approximately 5 Pops shows in the past, Thursday being the first in the newly renovated Hall, and I seem to remember that it used to be louder. I remember feeling the beat of the drums in my chest. Regardless, the show was SPECTACULAR! I wish the orchestra had more shows throughout every month. I hope you will have the Music of Hans Zimmer at some point, bring back the Big Band Era, and All That Jazz sound! I look forward to many more evenings at the Pops!

Could have been so much better!

by R. M. on 2019-10-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The orchestra was technically very good. The conductor was theatrically unconvincing and sounded more like a politician than a entertainer leading a magnificent orchestra. The choice of music was very limited and uninspiring from such a great contemporary composer The encore was treated like giving a small amount of change to a homeless person - far from an act of sincere appreciation and thanks.

    Very good!

by A. on 2019-06-24National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

So much to see and hear, from the orchestra to the singers and to the cirque performers, it was a great show!!! I enjoyed every minute of it. My only complaint was not being able to see very well due to a tall person a couple of rows in front (me being short doesn’t help) and being that a lot of the action was centre stage it made it difficult to see, after intermission I was lucky to find an empty seat that gave me a Birdseye view and from then on it was awesome!

Both the orchestra and the singers where amazing. The young lady had an exceptional voice as did the 2 gentlemen.

    World class

Love the new Southam Hall acoustic experience. The orchestra was, as ever, fantastic, and the vocalists superb. Such a treat.

    Best of Broadway – stunning

by Jan1 on 2018-05-02National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Best of Broadway – stunning! The 4 soloists were beyond superb. Not only were their voices exemplary, but they acted the parts that they sang from the Broadway hits. You could have heard a pin drop for each performance. They were supported by my favourite conductor Jack Everly along with orchestra and choir.

Jack was entertaining as always. Vocalist were outstanding. Finale number should have been a more popular one.

Show was OK but not memorable

by Anonymous on 2018-04-30National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Doesn’t rate high on my list of must see shows. There are lots of wonderful heights that were missed and show was short, two 45 mins sessions.

    Doo-wop Project

by Hammondguy51 on 2018-03-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

First time I had ever been to a Pops Series concert at the NAC. I love this style of music and I was not disappointed. The five vocalists were outstanding, wonderful selection of songs, great rapport with the audience, and their choreography was superb. Now on to the NAC orchestra led by Jack Everly augmented, by a solid pianist, electric guitarist, drummer and electric bassist. The arrangements were stellar and the playing was magnificent. They played beautifully under the vocals. They did complemented the singers, without overwhelming them. It was a great evening a classic doo-wop and sixties R&B classics with a sprinkle of some modern tunes that were re-arranged in a doo-wop style. If this show comes back I highly recommend you check it out.

    The Doo Wop Project.

by bettycrocker43 on 2018-03-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

This show is a must see if and when they come back to Ottawa. Well worth the money. The singing was out of this world. Would not hesitate for a minute to see them again in a heart beat. My daughter and daughter-in-law also enjoyed it as well.
