    The Music of Motown

by mistyrose on 2010-12-12National Arts Centre - Ottawa

The 4 guys that make up Spectrum were great....excellent voice range amongst them... would like to hear them with a small group behind them vs the full NAC orchestra... could hear them, but they had good vocals that could stand alone. Enjoyed trip down memory lane.

the group was really good, we found that the orchestra was too loud and it was impossible to hear the words.

    GREAT MOTOWN MEMORIES

by PERRIPCA on 2010-12-11National Arts Centre - Ottawa

The NAC orchestra sounded great and the Spectrum singers did a great job recreating Motown hits from the past. On many songs, if you closed your eyes you thought the original artist was in the building. Was also surprised to realize I knew the words to the majority of the songs. The only part I found a bit corny was the group's choreography but that's how they did it back then.

    Great Pops Season Opening

by Anonymous on 2010-11-26National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Once again Maestro Jack Everly and the orchestra were fabulous! Not to mention the talented guest artists. I particularly enjoyed the Pas de deux from Swan Lake with the artists from the National Ballet and the "rolling up the lake" afterwards (you had to be there :) ) Concertmaster Yosuke Kawasaki did a phenomenal job with the multiple violin solos throughout the evening. Great variety of dance and music, truly something for everyone.

    it was great

by sued12 on 2010-11-10National Arts Centre - Ottawa

I thought the orchestra was very good, first violinist playing was incredibly beautiful, the dancing was excellent. The Lombard twins amazing. I must say, I was a little disappointed that the NAC orchestra did not have uniforms, everyone was dressed in white and black but would have looked so much more professional if the all wore the same tops (ladies) and jackets (men), the violinist bow ties were crooked. Don't mean to harp on esthetics but it does look a little cheap and it is a little distracting from close up.

    Gotta Dance

by Fish23 on 2010-11-08National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Excellent show. Jack Everly and the orchestra always do a great job. Ottawa is lucky to have them. All the dancers were exellent and the Lombard Twins especially so.. I wish the show was another hour longer.

    POPS Gotta Dance

by OlenaAlex on 2010-11-08National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Unbelievable, sometimes breath-taking and eyes-watering performance! It was pure joy and touch of the art wonders, what I can say more! After I did not feel the same tired and overloaded with life, I feel uplifted and inspired to go through my small hazards and to do what life is calling me for. This is the power of Art and this is what it exists for – to inspire.

We often try to go to the CTV Pops series because of the interesting themes and the conductor, Jack Everly, is very interactive and amusing. I would recommend all of the CTV Pops events we've been to over the last couple years, but this show in particular was even better since it incorporated the wonderful NAC orchestra as well as some very talented dancers! A truly impressive evening! :)

    Fabulous event!

by MorDun on 2010-11-06National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Absolutely phenomenal event. I've gone to see the CTV Pops every time they came to the NAC and I've loved every show. This blend of dance and music was a great idea :D The sheer range of dance styles was brilliant. I had so much fun and haven't clapped that hard in ages.

    Gotta Dance....More

by DancerInMyDreams on 2010-11-06National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Gotta Dance is a great concept. Full orchestra on stage, chatty, show-bizzy, big band era conductor, and excellent dance numbers by an eclectic mix of local and international talent. Highlight for me was Stephanie Cadman, an amazing tap dancer and entertainer (she also fiddles and step dances but that wasn't part of this show). Ottawa born, bred and trained and yet the program write-up didn't breathe a word about that (??). Only criticism is that there wasn't enough dance. Many orchestra-only pieces were entirely danceable (that was the theme afterall). The audience was left waiting through the intro bars of each piece to see if someone would emerge from the wings. Lunch bag let-down. Southam Hall was packed, mostly grey heads but our 19 year old daughter enjoyed it thoroughly too. Would definitely do this again if it comes back.
