Funny puppets...but do not bring your kids!

by Cjtvs on 2010-06-24National Arts Centre - Ottawa

I really enjoyed the show however, I think it was because of the puppets...it helped ensure I wasn't offended by some of the language. It actually made some obscene words and gestures cute coming from them. I still can't get a few of the songs out of my head! Go see it!

Avenue Q was to say the least....brutal

by garrynicholas on 2010-06-24National Arts Centre - Ottawa

My partner and I were expecting a shocking, adult themed musical instead we saw a childrens show with a bit of language. We left at intermission. Can we get a refund?

The show was cute with a side of hilariously inappropriate.

A Flash in the Pan, But a Fun Flash

by Anonymous on 2010-06-24National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Avenue Q is NOT a musical that will be touring in revival in thirty years. It depends for its impact on audiences familiar with Sesame Street; it works because it plays both with and against those characters, that kind of breezy, jokey narrative, and the external forms of the show (the counting games, the spelling drills, the cheery little moral lessons). As such, it's very funny; but it is essentially a two act parody of a time-limited cultural phenomenon whose peak has already passed.

    Avenue Q puppets were amazing

by LadyMM on 2010-06-23National Arts Centre - Ottawa

The cast, music, lines were good. However the sound/words weren't always clear. I have noticed this before at the NAC, particularly during Harispray.

    Avenue Q was disappointing

by Ottawan on 2010-06-23National Arts Centre - Ottawa

The title says it all - Avenue Q was disappointing. In fact, it is the worst Broadway play that I have ever seen. There is nothing memorable about the music or dialogue. The actors were good.

The Gary Coleman bits were in poor taste

by BusttedZip on 2010-06-23National Arts Centre - Ottawa

Really weird that they didn't rewrite the show to something more relevant. I can't imagine that the Gary Coleman stuff was ever funny (It's just too easy) but it's especially awkward now that he is dead.

    So ooo disappointed

by AveQfan on 2009-12-07Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Looking forward to this for months.. First time saw the show in New York- second time in Toronto. Then finally collected some new timers to see the show in Hamilton.. And I was soooooooo Disappointed especially for being in hamilton only one day... The actors were washed out... they were not convincing on any of the dialogue.. I felt like they were simply going through the motions.. had done it too many times. This is really unfortunate being as this musical has previously been wonderful. For how popular this is- I am sure there were many individuals who also were very familiar with the dialogue- by no means should this knowing have taken away form the enjoyment of seeing "sesame street like characters divulge themselves in adult life issues. People should see this & make their own judgment.. I still feel slightly foolsh for raving about this to my friends (who frequent musicals) who, might I mention again had not previously seen it, getting them to come, and the general consensus being mediocre.

    Avenue Q was Hilarious!

by Jason123 on 2009-12-03Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

The play consists of puppets being controled by performers on stage. Soon after the play starts, the puppets and puppeteers soon become one and the fantastic acting and puppet movements add to the hilarity that soon ensues. I had expected more sex jokes and was disappointed that there were not more of them. However, there was a surprisingly coherent story from start to finish that was entertaining and connected the funny songs together. I like comedies and so I enjoyed watching this.

    Avenue A+!!!!

by MattDellMusic2 on 2009-11-30Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Avenue Q was such an amazing performance. The cast was very talented and very funny. The story line was way too funny and the one-liners have had me repeating them all day. I would totally recommend this to anyone who is a fan of musicals and loves to laugh. However, if you get offended easily, stay away from this show. A stiff attitude is no place for a show like this.

    Avenue Q

by bonaldo on 2009-11-30Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Avenue Q was entertaining from the first note. The puppetry was excellent and the moving from stage to screen flawless. My husband and I were almost afraid of laughing too long in case we missed any of the punchlines. The venue was even better. It's just as close as Toronto and the tickets were half the price the parking only $5 and the seats were comfortable with lots of leg room. The only disappointment was that it only had one show!!

    Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymous on 2009-11-30Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

The show was fantastic.... I have not laughed that hard in a long time. I had no idea how the cast would pull off a show with puppets, but they did. And they did a fantastic job of it. If you need a good laugh I would highly recommend going to this production. I will go and see it again the next time it comes to a theatre near me. Word of warning, even though it involves puppets, it is not a production that I would take children to see.

    Avenue Q - astounding!

by Doctor14 on 2009-11-30Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

I had little knowledge of what the play was about. While definitely rated 'A', I thoroughly enjoyed this production! It was funny, poignant and, best of all, the actors on stage made it so easy to lose yourself in the world of these puppets. I almost forgot many times that there was a person attached to these characters. I would highly recommend this production.

    Great collaboration between the performers!

by ksks on 2009-11-30Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

It was amazing to see how the puppets and the performers can act as one. Before the show, I had a doubt of having puppets in the show but it was fantastic! Loved every moment and every line in the show~ "it's great to be on Avenue Q"
