This has been the only show I have -ever- walked out on. Concerts are concerts - but this doesn't even pass, unfortunately. I've been a long time fan of Avril, since Let Go was released when I was about 10, like most young girls I absolutely ate it up, but this show was one of the biggest let downs I've ever paid money for. She didn't get on stage until something like 10 pm, where most people arrive at 7:30 and in the meantime, the crowd was put through three opening bands, the first two which made my ears bleed with their awkwardly heartfelt songs and off-tuned guitars and the last of which I can honestly say performed better then herself. There was zero energy put into this show, zero soul and nothing that I was hoping for. She spent a good amount of time talking to the crowd, which was a cool thing, but played Sk8er Boy at the very beginning. No build up - and if she was called out for an encore, it wasn't for her most popular song; but then again I walked and gave my shirt to a homeless guy, which was a pretty good end to an otherwise poor night.
Now, I'm aware her music is targeted to a younger age group then my own - I know. But seriously? That childish, frustraiting upturned questioning pitch to her voice was straight up juvenile, along with the fact she chose to wear a guitar she had no idea how to play. And I do mean no idea - she was sort of hitting the thing and holding it by the neck. So, if nothing else, congratulations Avril Lavigne, for clothing the homeless and disapointing yet another fan whose grown up with what used to be good music. What an utter waste of money. :(
