B.B.King only gets better with age !
by Empressario on 2012-06-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaOver the years my wife and I have had the privilege to see the legendary BB King and his stellar ensemble live at the NAC many times, and I can assure you that he is still very much a crowd pleaser. The format of the show may have changed over the past few decades, but he and Lucille can still hit those notes, and at 86 years young his sound is as solid as ever despite some negative commentary one may read in other mainstream media reviews. What all the critics out there often overlook is that Mr. King still tours not because he has to but because he loves what he does, and this is clear from his performance from start to finish. If someone goes to a show expecting him to perform the way he had back in the 70’s they probably would be better off attending a Justin Bieber concert, and give their tickets to someone who would truly appreciate the opportunity to witness one of the last true Mississippi Bluesmen perform. These days, his set list may not come close to covering the entire ‘greatest hits’ catalogue by any means, but what he does dish out is pure gold intertwined with lots of audience interaction and narrative. For those in attendance, this not only entertains, but establishing a more intimate connection, even in the larger more impersonal venues. To top off the evening, he will often toss out guitar picks and sign autographs right from the stage for his fans. Definitely a class act all the way, and one show not to be missed !
